Windows 7 Blue Screen - ntoskrnl.exe

Hey there, recently I've started getting BSOD's quite regullarly, most with different error warnings (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NOT_PAGED_AREAS, etc.)

I've attached the dumps and system health report.

My system is 64 bit, Windows 7 Professional, Full Retail (I built the computer myself), the system is about 4 months old, I previously had Windows 7 32 bit installed, however about a month ago I installed 64 bit Windows 7. The blue screens seem to have started after I performed a hack to relocate the Users folder (it's now located in my D:\ drive, rather than the C:\ drive where Windows is installed). This may however simply be a red herring, as it was slightly after this that the blue screens started.

Thanks guys!

Hi joenot443 and Welcome to the Forum.

I wouldn't advise to move the Users folders as there are many files/folders in there that are system based. Moving personal files/folders (Documents, Pictures etc.) should cause no problems though.

STOP 0x00000109: CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION
Usual causes:
Device driver, Breakpoint set with no debugger attached, Hardware (Memory in particular).

Your latest dump file lists memory_corruption as the probable cause. This usually indicates out of date Drivers or Bad Memory.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

As a Priority:

lmimirr.sys Tue Apr 10 23:32:45 2007.
LMIRfsDriver.sys Mon Jul 14 17:26:56 2008.
RaInfo.sys Fri Jan 04 18:57:14 2008 LogMeIn/RemotelyAnywhere. Has known issues with Windows 7. Update or uninstall this software.

Drivers with Updates:

Rt64win7.sys Wed Jun 23 10:10:45 2010 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller v7.040

CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (109)
This bugcheck is generated when the kernel detects that critical kernel code or
data have been corrupted. There are generally three causes for a corruption:
1) A driver has inadvertently or deliberately modified critical kernel code
 or data. See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/kernel/64bitPatching.mspx
2) A developer attempted to set a normal kernel breakpoint using a kernel
debugger that was not attached when the system was booted. Normal breakpoints,
"bp", can only be set if the debugger is attached at boot time. Hardware
breakpoints, "ba", can be set at any time.
3) A hardware corruption occurred, e.g. failing RAM holding kernel code or data.

If blue screens continue:
Run Memtest86+ overnight, after your computer has been off for about an hour or two so it has a cold start. Let it run for at least 7 passes / 6-8 hours. If errors appear before that you can stop that particular test.
Note!! Any time Memtest86+ reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad Mobo slot. Test RAM sticks individually. When you find a good one then test it in all slots. Post back with the results.

Hey Nimble, thanks for the quick reply.

I've already performed a memtest with the Windows one using default settings (it returned no errors), would this normally suffice or should I try again using the software you provided?

Additionally, as I should've mentioned before, I purchased 4 GB of additional RAM about the same time I reinstalled Windows, however I later realized it was defective (or at least one stick was), as one of the gold plated connectors on it was burnt off. I've uninstalled both 2 GB sticks however I still experience the blue screens (though it would always refuse to boot if I had the defective stick installed).

Memtest86+ will do a more thorough job of testing your RAM. I'd run Memtest86+ as per the methods described in the links provided, especially as you discovered a damaged stick of RAM. It may possibly have damaged your Mobo slot and while everything is still relatively new is the best time to find out if everything works as it should.

I ran Memtest +86 for about 5 hours, totaling 7 passes.

Fortunately, it found no errors, more or less bringing me back to square one however. I've experienced 3 more bluescreens since my last post, all of them reporting ntoskrnl.exe as the fault.

Any other ideas fimble or other members?

You should be only doing Memtest if you are getting BSOD after updating those drivers.

I decided the best thing to try was to simply uninstall LogMeIn for the time being (it's the cause of those three drivers you listed), and just to see if it improves.

I did a little googling and it seems to be that Logmein has caused BSODs on Windows 7 x64 computers before, which would more or less align with the timeline as I installed Logmein as soon as I upgraded to x64.

I only uninstalled it about an hour ago so I'll update if it blue screens again, however hopefully (fingers crossed!) this may have solved the issue.

Hmmm, what exactly were you wanting me to do with the information from that thread? Neither of those services are running on my computer, though as I once again forgot to mention, SP1 failed to install when I tried installing it, perhaps this is another potential cause?

Oh and Nimble, I unfounately received another Blue Screen this morning, meaning LogMeIn wasn't necessarily the problem .

Any other ideas?
