    BSOD - irql_not_less_or_equal (usually)

    Good Afternoon,
I am having some issues with a customers computer. They initially told me that they had a virus infection, and that the internet would "stop working" after being on the net for about 2 min. Once I started my troubleshooting i noticed that the computer would BSOD (irql_not_less_or_equal) after about 10 min of any activity, network or otherwise. I called the customer back and informed them of what i was experiencing. The customer informed me that this is normal. Final report/analysis from customer: "After about 2 min after I'm on the internet, the computer would either freeze up or BSOD."

Restarted into safe mode and got better results I was able to run MBAM and remove about 820 infected items. Once this was complete (still in safe mode) I was able to browse the web and shutdown properly.

Upon restarting windows normally, I was able to log onto the web and surf around for about 10 min or so and then it BSOD again this time SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION.

I shut it down, and proceeded to open the unit (alot easier than i thought) to troubleshoot RAM (swapping out with known good), apply "Artic Silver" to heatsink and CPU, and Clean dust and debris form fans and heat sink fins.

Restarted and after about 4 min got BSOD (irql_not_less_or_equal) but this time it had ataport.sys underneath (i failed to copy down the Hex).

This is when I decided to join this forum and see if I can get any help with this issue because It has me completely baffled. I followed the instructions posted by jcgriff2 on t he sticky. I was able to do all steps except for PERFMON /REPORT. When i tried to run the app it stated "Error: An error occurred while attempting to generate report"
    Information:
    Manufacturer: Dell
    System Type: Inspiron Desktop One19
    Current OS: Windows7 64 bit

    Update.
I have now been in Safe mode for about an hour or so with no BSOD.
Doing a System Restore to 1/2011.
    Will update again once finished.

Thanks to all who have looked.

If you don't have issues in Safe Mode, then it's gotta be a driver that's causing the problem.
This could be a remnant of the infections, or it could be another problem entirely.
More to follow once I have a look at your upload.

System needs SP1 - it's usually under Important Updates in Windows Update

Wireless Broadcom device - is it USB? If so, here's my spiel:
I do not recommend using wireless USB devices.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 - and using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.
    This device is having problems:
    Code:
Security Processor Loader Driver ROOT\LEGACY_SPLDR\0000 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
This usually is present if you've had an infection. I'd suggest running a lot more scans to remove any remnants. Here's a list of free, online scans: Free Online AntiMalware Scanners

Numerous BSOD events in MSINFO32 - only one references a 3rd party driver (igdkmd64.sys)
Please update your Intel graphics driver from the Intel website ( http://downloadcenter.intel.com )

Some Internet Security/Security Center apps have BSOD issues that aren't easily discovered. I'd suggest the following:
    Anti-Virus Removal:
    Please do the following:
    - download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
    - uninstall the McAfee from your system (you can reinstall it, if so desired, when we're done troubleshooting)
    - remove any remnants of McAfee using this free tool: How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)
    - IMMEDIATELY install and update the free antivirus
    - check to see if this fixes the BSOD's
I've seen BSOD issues on Dell's w/WebCamCentral (but not for the last 6 months or so). Try updating that if all else fails.

More to follow when the memory dumps (25 of them) are finished running....

    25 memory dumps (30 Dec 2010 to 05 Mar 2011)
    5 different BSOD error codes
    4 different causes blamed

You may have replaced some of these drivers already:
OLDER DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
    - Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall/remove them from your system. Reference links included below.
    - DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
    - Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.

If the McAfee replacement doesn't fix it, then I'd suggest running Driver Verifier according to these directions:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

    Then, here's the procedure:
    - Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
    - Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
    - Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
    - Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:
    Code:
Delete these registry keys (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel

    Good Evening,
Thanks for your reply. I ran the TDSSKiller app from Kapersky and it found a rootkit. I removed it and everything seems to be in working order. I ran the program about 10 pm last night. it has been operational since then. I was able to run more scans and remove any reaming viruses hanging out in the registry. I was able to update all drivers, apply all security updates from Microsft and install SP1.

However shortly after the inverter blew out on this nightmare .

But i hooked it up to an external via HDMI and confirmed that all is still well.

Thanks to all who looked for your professionalism and suggestions.

    -Dirty
