Screen Flashing then locks up!!

I have a intel motherboard with core 2 duo. 3 gb ram. Motherboard has onboard GPU.

Here's the problem. The screen will flash all black and intermittently go back to the windows I have open. Then back to black and then the windows are messed up and mouse freezes. Happens about 3 times then its just locks up. It has a yellow alert triangle in the bottom taskbar thing, but its locked up so I dont know whats going on. I have to manually turn off and then when I power up, it doesn't do anything. No hard drive activity. Then I have to manually turn off again, then I can power up and everything works. Sometimes it wont happen for a week, sometimes 3-4 times daily. I dont game or anything.

I tried formatting and starting with a clean install of windows and it still happens. So I'm guessing hardware??? IDK!! Any help would be awesome...thanks!

Well if a clean install didn't fix the problem it has to be a hardware issue. Without knowing all the particulars of your computer I would start with trying a different graphics card (if you have one lying around). Maybe try some utilities to test the integrity of your HDD while you are at it. Good utility for that is SpinRite.

Black flashing then locked up! Need help please.

3 year old computer. Intel mainboard w/onboard gpu, 750gb barracuda HD, Intel Core 2 Duo 7300, Fresh install of Widows 7 Ultimate x86.

A yellow alert icon?
in windows 7?
That just doesn't sound right.
You have no dump files there for me to work with I'm going to suggest running malwarebytes in safe mode with networking.
Safe Mode
safe mode with networking will allow you to both download install and apply the definition updates while in safemode.
Malwarebytes <--- malwarebytes link
The free version is more than adequate for our purposes here.

A yellow icon in the tray sounds like a malware antivirus rip off to me.

I updated the driver but I think I was current. Same driver version installed. I went to access this site for any more info, and crashed again. I dont understand how to find out whats wrong. I let it sit while froze and it restarted itself and when rebooted, said windows shut down from an unexpected error. I click search to fix this problem or whatever, and the window just went away. Im buying a Mac!!!!! lol
