BSOD, Memcrash/dskchk, reboot
Heres the deal, I opted to build a HTPC to take over for TV and movies for the family. Not my first system to build from scratch.
Built it, installed Windows 7 x64, no problems, updated and everything was smooth and great. Then about a month and a half later, my hard drive starts making chattering noises, signaling its getting ready to die out on me (Im upset at this since its a brand new hard drive). Didnt want to have to reinstall everything all over again so I used clonezilla and that didnt work so I used Paragon software to clone my hard drive to my secondary internal hard drive (drive 2). It worked, as far as cloning it but never was able to boot from it. So at least I have my partitioned data saved. Great, so I buy a third hard drive, (drive 3) so i just ditch Drive 1 since its junk at this point. the cloned partitions are on drive 2. Do a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 and just delete over everything on drive 2 after backing stuff up. Drive 2 installed just fine, bring it up and install my graphics drivers because hey, im running this HTPC off of my Plasma TV and well I just get a 60" version of 800x600 resolution, not conducive to seeing what Im doing.
So after figuring out I can press "N" to go to next and get my drivers and CCC installed for my graphics card, and then I install my LAN drivers for my MOBO, then I go to install Windows updates. Yup searches for them, and starts the whole download and install. Here is where things went wrong, It kept hanging on installing, so I stop and restart thinking its a glitch. "WIndows update failed" okay I know that, it installed some but not all of them. Okay realistically it only installed like 4 of them. So i have to repeat this pattern even with going direct to Microsoft and downloading them. Eventaully get them all installed and even Service Pack 1. Woohoo right, I beat the system.
All is good for about a week. (I was lazy that week and only installed Google chrome and adobe flash). We use netflix here and the wife watches CBS and all those tv shows online. Start getting crashes with chrome stating there was an error in playback. Im like okay, whatever, reinstall chrome and flash. Not a big deal, does it again, try it with internet explorer 8, same thing.
Little frustrated at this point. I figure okay something must be going wrong with the system. I eventually get CHKDSK errors on boot and on crash. Im like WTH. Then I Get BSOD giving me the dirty eye. Okay okay I tell myself trying to calm down, "maybe i cloned some bad sectors and it messed up my Drive 2, not a big deal, I can live with it being data till I can have it looked at. So I unplug it so i dont confuse a fresh install with Drive 3. Install Windows 7 x64 on Drive 3 (no clone on this one). Do the same thing i did with Drive 2, install catalyst control drivers so I can see what Im doing, pop in my Asus disc and install LAN driver and then go to WIndows update, where it again hangs on installing and wont finish no matter how long its left going. What makes matter worse is that in the last two hours, I have had several BSOD crashes and CHKDSK error crashes. I see no reason why I should be having these issues considering Drive 1 worked fine until it decided it didnt want to be part of my life anymore. And Drive 3 hasnt had anything else put on it, and Im still struggling to fix it.
If it was a cheap store bought thing I would take it back, or return the parts, But so far Ive put nearly $1,500 into the HTPC and with a smashing sound system to go with it.
Included the BSOD error reports and HTML needed. FYI, crashed to BSOD 3 times while trying to get these reports, (nothing else going on, no multitasking).
Lets see what you think of this problem
