    BSOD, Freezing, Chkdsk Crashing.

    Hey

    I've recently had a few problems with my computer this morning, I've had this computer for ~3years without any problems. I generally fix computers myself but i'm stumped for ideas without spending money on replacement Hardware.

    Now the problem;

    • It occasionally crashes when windows is starting up (Windows logo).
    • I will occasionally get a BSOD, I've not been able to get much info from it though since it restarts before i can read anything useful, Although i did get "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and i -think- a STOP, I can confirm if needed.
    • When i do manage to get into windows, It will just freeze, Completely unresponsive.
    • Crashes on ChkDsk.

    The steps i have taken to find the problem;

    • Changed all of my RAM, Tried single sticks, Changed sockets - It doesn't seem to be a RAM issue(unless all 3 are Faulty)
    • I have attempted to do a Chkdsk, It crashed during step 4/5.
    • It will still crash/BSOD in safemode.

    Now for the computer itself;

    • Video card - ATI HD5830 (~4 - 5months old)
    • CPU - Q6600 Quad Core
    • 5GB 667 RAM
    • 500gb HDD (i can check brand if required)
    • MoBo - ASUS P5QL/EPU, Cheapish replacement for broken MoBo (4 - 5months old)
    • 1000watt PSU.

    I personally have a feeling its the HD dying, But i want opinions before i start replacing parts.

    Any help on this problem is greatly appreciated, I can't rely on running programs to find the solution i guess since it crashes so much.

    Thank you,
      My Computer

    Heyy, Sorry for the late reply. Also sorry if my reply is badly worded, I didn't get much sleep last night.

    I can't do what the link you provided is asking me to. It crashes before i can do anything. basically rule out anything that requires me to log in or go into safe mode (safemode still crashes).

    Something i've noticed is that the BSOD sometimes presents different details, it crashed a second ago that wasn't a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I can't remember what it said this time.

    I've got a spare PSU which i may try.

    Any more ideas?

    P.S. I may be able to get a dump file if that would help

    I'm guessing a Format would present the same outcome as a Repair install? There is no data i am worried about losing, Everything can be re-installed & downloaded.

    At the moment i can get into Windows setup by booting from CD without it crashing, but it still crashes in Safe mode with & without Networking.

    It's fixed, Thank you so much for your help.

    How did you know that was the problem? What was the problem? Corrupt Window files? Just for the future..
