Sudden Monitor NO SIGNAL during boot Win 7 64 bit

I am sorry to say my experience with Windows 7 64 bit home premium has left me less than impressed, as it seems to be quite buggy.

I use the Gigabyte M68MT-D3 MB (which specifically states that it's Windows 7 ready), with an Athlon II 635 AMD processor and Corsair DDR3 4GB RAM. I am not presently using any fancy GPU's, just the standard on board GeForce 7025 / NForce 630a. My Monitor is an Acer X193w. The NVidia driver I use was downloaded from the NVidia home site, and is the most recent driver to support this graphics chip set. The BIOS is updated, using the legitimate utility that came with the MB CD.

Previously I was experiencing BSOD's every now and then on start up. Restarting in Fail Safe mode, and then restarting normally thereafter, was fixing the problem temporarily, but it recurred quite frequently. Inexplicably, the problem seemed to be fixed by unganging the dual channel memory.

And now, a new problem arises. Upon starting Windows, everything is fine up until the moment the log in screen should appear. At that point, the monitor displays NO SIGNAL, and in the back ground I hear the rest of the boot up continue (the chime sound that plays with the log in screen is heard, but there is no display). The system does boot in Fail Safe mode, but now never in normal.

Just to be sure, I limit my internet experience to gmail and MSDN, and have Avast anti virus installed. Apart from that, the only additional programs I have installed over the Windows installation are MS VC++ 2008 and MS VB 2008 (Express), Mozilla Firefox, DirectX SDK, and Adobe Reader.

I would hazard to say that it is a graphics chip set problem except that A). The screen appears in Fail Safe mode and B). The display works perfectly well on my Linux Debian and Ubuntu installations, through Xserver Xorg and with the Linux NVidia display drivers for the chip set.

Any ideas, please, as to what I can do to permanently fix this problem?

    My thanks for any help.

Yes, I know it says don't do an additional post, but I have to add that perfmon /report stated an error that the specified path could not be found. The other report is up there, zipped.

Also, my Windows 7 is a full retail version.

    EDIT:
And I forgot to add, this problem occurred on a boot just after, on the last session, printing for the first time on Windows 7 to my Canon iP1800 printer. No driver was installed for the printer, BTW, as it worked "out of the box". I have since downloaded the Win 7 64 bit driver for it from Canon website, but cannot install it through Fail Safe mode as the printer is not detected. However, it does seem unlikely that the printer would cause a display failure, does it?

It looks like you had 4 BSOD. One was at the end of March and the other three were in the beginning of April. They have to deal with the file system. I'm not sure if they have to do with the issue your having but they might.

I would like you to run these tests.
    1. Hard drive scan using SeaTools. Run both short and long test.
    2. Disk Check
    3. SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please also enable driver verifier - Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Nope, nothing is doing anything to restore the system. mgorman87, my sincere thanks for your help, in any case. However, as a user of MS products since DOS 6.2 and Windows 3, I think Windows 7 is a very poor show from a company with MicroSoft's reputation. It has been nothing but trouble, this being the fourth time I reinstalled it because of these teething troubles. A waste of money, gparted and grubbed out. I'll stick with Debian, for even the versions of Linux that openly brand themselves "unstable" are more stable than this. Thanks again, and sorry.

Okay, I might be a little late to the party, but would you happen to have your TV or secondary monitor hooked up to your computer? When my TV is hooked up, occasionally the desktop goes over to the TV and leaves me with a blank monitor. I still hear the logon chimes and whatnot, but no logon screen. Maybe hit Windows key + P several times to see if you can't get it to switch desktops?

Hope this helps somewhat, and you haven't wiped it yet...

    Heather,

Well, you have given Win 7 a new lease of life as far as I am concerned. That did seem to be the problem. Many thanks.

Nonetheless, writing my thoughts here; I never hooked up to any different screen output other than the described monitor. The only "new" peripheral ever used immediately before the problem was the printer, as described above. How can it be that a printer is "interpreted" as a screen output to the effect that the monitor was disabled?

I did not even do any screen dumps to the printer, just printed a WordPad document.

Oh well, it is working again, so my thanks.
