Windows Explorer continuously crashing and restarting

I am running windows 7 home premium 64bit on a Sager 5170 that I very recently bought. On the 11th I installed a new windows automated update and restarted. Since then my windows explorer has been cycling through stopping and restarting every ten seconds or so or whenever I attempt t run any windows program. Firefox is still working, though (I am using it to submit this). When I try to run a system restore I receive an error about a corrupt file in the restore image (or something along those lines) regardless of which restore point I choose (I only have three and one is the update that started the problem) and running a disk check/repair has failed to solve the problem.

The computer can start in safe mode but the issue persist there as well. I can open task manager but again, trying to run any windows program results in explorer crashing and restarting.

I do not have a installation disk as the computer came preloaded with windows and I had yet to create a backup image for the computer so reinstalling could pose a problem.

    Please help.

EDIT: After restarting a large number of times, the explorer finally gave me this message:

"The instruction at 0xfe250294 referenced memory at 0x753d0000. The memory could not be read.

Click OK to terminate the program"

Since it works in safe mode but not a normal boot I suspect it is a conflict of some sort.

I would start by disabling boot up items one at a time in msconfig and rebooting. Just remember which you have disabled

    to do that

    go to start>search>type "msconfig"

Go to the start up tab and uncheck (disable) non MS things one at a time and reboot.

    see snip

Let us know if you need assistance with this
