    BSODs on HP Pavillion

    Hello All
    Bought a new laptop online,

windows 64bit pre installed (home premium) -
HP Pavillion dv6 3141ea, AMD Phenom II Quad-Core N930 Processor, 15.6" HD Screen, Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD Rewriter, Dedicated ATI 5470 Graphics, Bluetooth, HDMI, Fingerprint Reader, XD499EA#ABU

after a couple of blue screens as soon as I got it, 2 weeks ago, I just got another. Anyone got any ideas as to what the problem might be? I attached the reports as suggested.

    Any assistance much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Frank and welcome

Thes point to pool_corruption (memory) probably caused by your Symantec.

I would remove symantec and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support

    http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

I would also run a memory test just to be sure.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Hey zigzag - thanks for the response. It did say BAD_POOL_MEMORY on the screen I think before it died. i actually removed norton completely after the first two crashes and installed MSE so not sure it's that, unless there is something hanging around? How could I check this? The perfmon mentioned a plugandplay device malfunction (don't know if this is minor and unrelated) - I have a wireless mouse and wired Microsoft keyboard plugged in.

    thanks
