PDN and BSOD

Attachment 149823
Details in sys specs.

MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
Re-Installation Date: 24 February 2011, 20:16, Original Install Jan 2010
Retail pruchased from Purdue U under MS Campus Agreement
I installed XP Pro first to allow the upgrade package to work.

Problems: With each restart the monitor resolution reverts to 640X480 or 800X600, Native res is 1920X1080
I had an ATI HD4670 and swithched to nVIDIA GTX460 about 10 days ago, the resolution problem was present before this upgrade.

BSOD's occur when I use Paint.NET to render flames or clouds and other tasks. I have tried all the nVIDIA drivers from their site with no change.

Thanks for taking a look when possible, I know this thread is busy.

Have you checked with paint.net forum and see if they have come across that same issue?
In Corel Draw Suite 5x I get an occasional crash when working in CD Paint.
Checked out their forum and it is something they are working on.

Thanks Dennis, I'll give it a go. I've been there before and they, well, aren't very nice with some responses.

I started this to see if there is something else I'm missing/corupted, etc before I try a repair install. I'm sorta naturally lazy.

The PDN developer, Rick Brewster says it's not a PDN problem.

There are no MiniDump files. . .
information   Information
To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
** Until a .dmp file is generated, the Minidump folder may not exist.**

*Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl Press Enter.
*Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
*Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
*Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kb) in the drop down box (the 256kb varies).
*Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
*OK.
Reboot if changes have been made.

If you use a Cleaner Program (i.e: CCleaner) - temporary uninstall it until we are done troubleshooting. . .

For SeaGate Hard Drive: | Seagate
For Western Digital Hard Drive: WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD RE2

Please remove TuneUp Utilities - Windows 7 does not need a TuneUp Utility. If you need to speed up your system - upgrade your hardware and/or remove crapware from your system.

Let us know the results when you have done the hardware tests.

Will run tests. Does tuneUp cause hardware malfunctions? I use it for mundane things like changing icons and thins which otherwise would be reg hacking. What crapware do I have?

TuneUp just causes performance issues and sometimes installs unwanted software (sometimes, it never notifies you).
Crapware = Software you never use

Hi Dean, here is a fresh mini dump, while running Prime95 I BSOD'ed and it immediately restarted even though the auto restart was unchecked. I'll unclock the CPU and run it again along with MemTest 86+. The HDD passed fine with SeaTools. All tests in run Windows then again in DOS, long, short and S.M.A.R.T tests.
