Usually if you restore the system and it still misbehaves - that's a good indicator of hardware problems.
    Good luck!

My main concern is if it does go back the technician's may not be able to replicate the bug and/or detect any hardware defects!
When running linux I haven't had any freeze's or crashes!

That's always a possibility - especially if Linux isn't giving you any issues.
Run the hardware diagnostics and stress tests that I suggested. Those are most likely to generate repeatable results - and you can state that to the service center if you decide to send it in.

Contacted repair company. Waiting for replacement motherboard and dvd drive.
The DVD drive was acting up so I had them take a look at that too. I'd be interested to find out what exactly was faulty (I suspect Graphics Chipset memory).
Thanks for your help, looks like you were right and this is/was a hardware issue!

Finally got my Asus K52JK back from repair centre yesterday. Guess what, it froze shortly after logging into steam and downloading portal 2. This leads me to think it may not be the motherboard but the HDD, I am tempted to drive to Asus HQ UK and place my laptop "back into the source"!

Windows has made corrections to the file system.
Wait a couple of days and run CHKDSK /R /F again - if it has the above text in the summary, then it's likely to be a hard drive issue.

Also, try the free hardware diagnostics from my earlier post. With the repairs that Asus UK did, it may change the readings on your hard drive (you didn't have CHKDSK errors before sending it out - but you do now)

I tried to find out last week what the issue. I were told if BSOD's persist after restoring disk image then they change the motherboard, if that doesn't work they replace the HDD. Three repairs for any one issue and they replace the laptop.
Apart from memory the HDD is pretty much all that is left to cause any problems!
