Dual boot help! BCD Edit is not working

    Ok here is the situation:

Laptop, Windows 7 Professional 64bit is running perfectly on it. At one point in time I had a dual boot with Windows XP Professional. Somehow the boot manager stopped working randomly. Currently when booted into windows 7 (C:\) my old XP install on the same hard disk shows as the D:\.

I am still able to get into 7 but if I click windows xp it errors and says something about not being able to find the NTLDR.

    Steps taken:

I downloaded BCDEdit GUI interface and deleted the boot manager entry for windows xp and then tried to re-Add a WIndows XP entry allowing it to auto find. It appears to find my xp install. However when I reboot and choose XP, it acts like it's boot up because you see the black background with the big Windows XP logo and the green status bar under neath but then when it flashes its next screen which is the blue background similar to the user logon screen it just sits there and hangs. In the middle of the blue background screen is the Windows XP logo but it never does anything else.

I really dont want to reinstall XP and delete that partition I made. Could someone PLEASE help.
