ok here's the update, finally had a crash ( and on xp to rule out it being win7 ). well i popped open the case ( not sure why ) but noticed a red light on top of the card. when i turned off the computer it went back to white and when i turned the computer back on it blinked a couple times then when off. posting pics

EDIT!

After looking closer at the card, it appears that the light says over temp protect next to it. guess i need to check my fan and/or sync. its a 4850 so is it worth replacing the heat sync, or using the cash for a new card?

Get some thermal paste and take the heatsink off, clean it with alcohol, put a thin layer of paste on it.

That should fix it.

You're welcome.

Glad you got it running cooler.
You might want to pick up some thermal paste, in case it starts heating up again.
