If you have an external hard drive (USB) use Macrium Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download to backup a full image. This way when you reinstall Windows 7 you won't lose your files.

"restoring and losing everything". That means you should buy a copy of Win 7. Next time you could do a custom install and not lose any data.

You can also sign up for Microsoft skydive (25 gigs online free) and dropbox (2 gigs free). Or use ImgBurn and copy files to dvd. And use MozBackup to save and restore Firefox and Thunderbird files.

Good luck!
