I was afraid of that. lol I guess I will start working the drivers backwards again and see if I can get lucky with one.

This is priceless... thanks Dell, nice job.

Windows 7 comes with DirectX 11... the Nvidia GTX 260M card supports DirectX 10...

Could that be the problem? The emulation layer (or whatever it is called?)

If so, where can I get DirectX 10? It seems to have vanished from the Microsoft website and I am leery about grabbing it from some other site that I do not know if I can trust.

Windows 7 isn't emulating DirectX 10 - it's fully supported if a game or application requests it, so that's not it. Good luck with the drivers.

Thank you. I didn't know if my card could handle running DirectX 11 when it was designed to support DirectX 10... since I found some posts about issues when a program wants to use DX11 but the backwards compatibility for DX10 (10.1 or 9.x) cards wasn't quite what it should be.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, effort and
    knowledge!

I will leave this thread unsolved (since the issue persists) until I find a working driver, at which point I will post the driver version for anyone else who has this card and problem, then add [Solved] to the thread title.
