Hi

I updated the rangemax usb adaptor (although I checked the version installed and it match the one I was installing)
I have run a seagate test on both attached drives (long and short) and both passed.

I ran memtest last night with 18 passes with no errors.

Now prime 95.

I ran torture test, small ffts (i also selected round off checking) and worker 1 (cpu 1) had a hardware error after 1 hr 5 minutes. worker 2 ( cpu 2) continued ok. This was with the seagate test running as well which may have put the computer under stress so this result maybe similar to a blend test)
I have rerun the torture test, small ffts with nothing else running in the background and both workers complteted 4 hours with no errors.

I ran torture test (with round off checking), blend, and worker one stoped with hardware error within 3 minutes, worker 2 continued on ok. I have run this a few times with the same results.
I have attached the text file but it only shows the last couple of times i ran it for you to see.

Extra to all this I have been researching as I get this message at the post screen on start up. " this cpu is not supported by this model please check cpu qvl on asus website"
I have a amd athlon 64x2 dual core processor 6400+ and a asus m2n68-am sez acpi bios rev1409. When i checked the asus website the cpu is not in the supported list for the motherboard. Im not sure though why.
Also the temperature in the bios settings are running at cpu 57 c and mb 44 c. This was with the side cover off.
I have since downloaded a programme called core checker and these are the temps.
With no load core 0 is 29c and core 1 is 38c
when I run prime 95 core 0 increases to 84c and core 1 increases to 80c
Im not sure if this has any relevance as these temps may be normal as I do not know what they are supposed to be.

I havent updated to windows 7 service pack 1 yet as it has taken me ages to run the hardware scans as the computer kept switching of and i kept losing data.

I have to say I will be very suprised if it is anything else than hardware.
What can I do to pin point it.

Many thanks for your time

Those temps do seem high under load; idle temps are fine.

I'd suspect either a motherboard or a CPU problem; can you RMA either?

Hi,

No, unfortunately I had someone build it for me and he has now moved back to the uk (I live in spain).

Today I have been running prime 95, blend, and it has not given me any errors. Last night I tried changing settings for overclock but the computer didnt like it so I just restore all settings and since then no bsod's and no errors on prime 95. Very odd.
The cpu cores are running at 83c core 0 and 78c core 1 at this moment with prime 95 still running. Im not sure why one is hotter than the other and core 0 was the one with the errors.
Im still wondering if it is a mis match with the cpu and motherboard because of the message I get at post.
I sthere anything elsre I can run to pin point or do I have to start changing hardware as process of elimination.

Thankyou for your help

Just a thought, you may try flashing your BIOS: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M2N68-AM PLUS

How do the other two Prime95 tests fare?

Hi

Just a quick update,
Since your last post my PSU went bang. I have now replaced it and strangely the computer is much quicker and has not blue screened.
I am going to flash my bios as I am still getting the message on startup but as we speak I am wondering if my problem was the psu all along. I will report back in a few more days or so with hopefully my good news that I am still bsod free.
If it was this it just shows how a hardware fault can send you into thinking it is something else.

Thankyou for your very valuable time so far on trying to help me solve my problem and all the other persons who have replied as well.
Very much appreciated

Be back in a few days.
