    BSOD At Random

Evening all, & thank you in advance.

I'm doing this on behalf of a friend of mine. He says he's constantly getting BSODs. When asked what he is doing when he gets them, he says "different things at different times."

Hopefully it's just a faulty driver.

    Specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x86 OEM
System is less than 6 months old
OS was installed with the unit.

Again, thank you for any insight you can give me on this.

I looked at the dumps going back to 4/19 (and there are a considerable number), and most all of them appear to be caused by code running through the Intrustion Detection filter of AVG:
    Code:
    0: kd> lmvm AVGIDSFilter
    start end module name
    ae10e000 ae118000 AVGIDSFilter T (no symbols)
        Loaded symbol image file: AVGIDSFilter.Sys
        Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\AVGIDSFilter.Sys
        Image name: AVGIDSFilter.Sys
        Timestamp: Tue Aug 03 18:23:18 2010 (4C5896D6)
        CheckSum: 0000C2D4
        ImageSize: 0000A000
        Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
So, either his machine really is infected with something (not likely but should be checked offline using a bootable scan CD), or AVG is busted on that machine.
