Windows 7: Comp. Immediately Crashes. Safe mode = Ok.

I thought I was gonna be off the hook with the 8400, but, alas, I crashed. (Page fault in non paged area)
However, suppose the 6870 was in, 5 or 6 crashes would have probably occurred during that time instead of 1.

Also, when I booted back up after the crash I got an error from my integrated sound software/hardware...
"set dts headspk apo bass config settings fail"
I still get sound, and maybe I just got the message because the sound chip didn't like the bsod in the first place. Also, not completely relevant, but I was planning on getting a better sound card & speakers soon.

Edit: Now, again, I feel like it's the combination between my mobo and ram.
This is speculation, but it's as if the motherboard and ram don't agree, and the video cards are the trigger for more stress between the two. With the weaker video card, there is less stress on ram, or something like that. And with the 6870, there might be more complicated requirements/tasks, causing unrest between the ram/mobo. Alas, I really don't know.
I'm going to run memtest for awhile, once with my 8400 in, and another time with my 6870.
I remember asus never called me back last week, I'll see if they will work with me now.

Do you have access to another PSU to test with? It really does remind me of a power issue.

The next best power supply I have would be...450W (I think) with limited connections. I would only be able to hook up my two hard drives and use the 8400. I would lose my disc drive, a fan, and the option to use the 6870.
Without the 6870 I couldn't tell if we had a solution because the current setup with the 8400 already ran a week without any bsods.

Do you think you could part with your disc drive, fan, and 6870 for another couple of weeks or so? It may save you from having to buy a new PSU just to test with.

Dang-it, I was about to do that until I realized the power supply I was thinking of came off of a friends computer he was wondering If I wanted. I returned the thing because it was a bit too...useless, but if only I had kept it... He was giving it to me because he was planning on scrapping it along with a couple other old computers.
When I read that, it sounds like a horrible excuse to cut back on greasing the elbows, but I wouldn't lie if the other option is to buy a new supply.
I have two other computers, but their power supplies don't have a sata power connector, and only a 20 pin mobo connector, not 24.

Also, trying to solve the audio software error message, I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the integrated audio. I suppose my computer didn't like that, and now is giving me a "no audio device connected" problem. I've uninstalled things, looked in the Bios for settings, reinstalled things, and nothings worked, I looked around and seems like a lot of people have had the same problem. I couldn't find a solution, other than to reinstall windows. It couldn't hurt and backing everything up would be easy enough to do. Do I have the go-ahead for that?

Well I'll just be honest here, we are out of tests to run. We have a few suspect components, and probably the best way forward is to replace them first. You might buy a new PSU from somewhere like Newegg, such as this one: Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

There is a 30-day return policy on that, though do note that there is a restocking fee. You'll pay the restocking fee and the return shipping (shipping to you is free at the time of writing).

If you choose not to buy from Newegg, just remember to check the return policies BEFORE buying. Also be sure to buy a high-quality brand, don't compromise on account of the price. I personally recommend Corsairs, but read the reviews.

Sorry for the delay.

Well I figured I could go ahead and try out the one you suggested. It should get here tomorrow.
But, since then I've had my 6870 in and haven't gone down since. I tried looking at the ram timings more and loosened those since I hadn't done much with them.
