Windows 7: 1st BSOD in my life...

15 May 2011   #1

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit)
1st BSOD in my life...

Hey Forum, this is a first... I guess it had to happen someday...

10mins ago, i turned on my PC, went to grab a glass of water and when i came back, a BSOD was there, i couldn't read exactly what it said, but i think the word "Memory" was on there.

Here's the attachment with everything you guys need.

My OS is:

- Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 Bit
- Download from TechNet (no "Retail" DVD, only a Universal Disk)
- Hardware is relatively new, the oldest part could be 1yr old, mobo/cpu/ram is less than a year
- I reinstalled the OS 9 days ago, but i did use new software to test (MSE) and yesterday i installed a game that's not compatible with Windows 7 (but i modded it to make it work)

I think there's going to be a problem!

All the files are going to be in spanish because my windows is in spanish.. Please write back with any doubts about your spanish and i'll translate everything you need..

Thanks in advance

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit)

OK, i see... let's check my GPU-Z and post it here..

Normally it runs at 56ºC. it's on 51ºC because the room temp is really low, all night raining... Actually the video card is one of the oldest components, i think it has 1yr or a little bit more, and let's face it. Is a really low-end card

Are you sure that's the only reason for the BSOD? i don't want to think that my RAM/MoBo/CPU is f'ed up i don't have money to replace them hehe

According to your dump file it's definitely Graphics related. Have you recently updated the drivers? (Of course you have!) Did you run Driver Sweeper between the drivers "changeover"? (Of course you did!).
The rest of your drivers are looking pretty good to me.

You may possibly like to "re-set" your graphics drivers by uninstalling, run Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode, then reinstalling (in Normal Mode).

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit)

Actually i didn't use Driver Sweeper, didn't think it was necessary since i updated to the latests drivers as soon as i installed windows, but i see your point!

Well, since it is a really old card (i just checked and no, it's not 1yr old, it was bought in april, 2008.. it has 3yrs) i think it's time for me to buy a new video card and PSU (the PSU is also 3yrs old) i'm kinda tight on a budget... let's see how i can work things up.

Thanks, fimble!

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit)

Little update about the BSOD, now it has happened 3 times, but it only happens on a cold boot, i turn the PC on, it'll reach to the "Starting Windows" screen/logo and then the screen turns black, then BSOD, then reboot, then Windows starts like nothing happened... i'm starting to see a pattern here.. tomorrow i'll be changing my PSU (No-Name 480W) and i'll be buying a "decent" one.. probably no name too but at least new, this one it's 3 years old... right now i have waaaaaaay too much debts (University, the projects i'm doing) and who knows? i'll try 2 things:

1) i'll throw a new PSU in there, if the BSOD stops, then i'll deduce that it's power related. If not, then i'll deduce it's video card related.

2) i'll try to buy a new Video Card or i'll be using the integrated one at least until i gather some money to buy a new one.

I really don't think it's Drivers related because the BSOD began yesterday and i've been using those drivers since they came out.
