Windows 7: BSOD: kmode exception not handled

BSOD: kmode exception not handled

I have been trying to find an answer to this issue. I've started having a lot of BSOD errors this past week and can't seem to diagnose the issue. I've updated video drivers, updated my BIOS, un-installed and re-installed programs. I'm wondering if anyone can spot my issue in these files.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 945
OS has only been installed once, when I built the machine just over a year ago.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Shinyranger and Welcome to the Forum.

Usual causes: Disk corruption, insufficient physical memory, Device driver, Indexing, Resident antivirus, backup, defrag programs, Disk/Drive failing/failure[b]
Usual causes: System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory
The majority, including the latest, of your dump files return:
Usual causes:
Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS

Your latest dump file lists dxgmms1.sys as the probable cause. This is a Windows System graphics related driver and for it to be the cause of your crash is highly unlikely.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

As a Priority:

You Mention "I've updated video drivers". It may be a good idea to "reset" them:
  • Download and install Driver Sweeper.
  • Boot to Safe Mode
  • Uninstall your current Graphics Driver set up using Driver Sweeper.
  • Reboot to Normal Mode.
  • Install your new Graphics Driver set up.
Outdated Drivers. Update:

AsIO.sys Mon Aug 03 08:03:16 2009 Asus PCProbe Utility involved in some BSOD's. Possibly uninstall.
AsUpIO.sys Mon Jul 06 03:21:38 2009
ASUS hardware monitoring ASUS Support Update or uninstall both these ASUS Utilities.

TBPANELX64.SYS Tue Sep 20 12:32:31 2005 Cardex TBPanel video conversion app/Configuration utility for Gainward graphics cards. If you cannot update this software then I suggest you uninstall.

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.

Once your blue screens are resolved I suggest you seriously consider "upgrading" to SP1.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Thank you for the help.
I had two more Blue Screens this morning and now the system won't even post. Could it have been the motherboard? Asus M4n68T-M with an Nvidia chipset. Flashing the Bios wouldn't have made a difference if the board itself was bad, right?

Also: It appears that the link to DriverSweeper no longer hosts a valid file. Big, red text in the center of the page stating there are no longer any links for downloading at that location.

Sorry to see your problems appear to have escalated Shinyranger.

I've put out a request for help from anyone who has more experience than I in the mysterious world of BIOSes (you can gather I don't know a great deal about BIOS, just enough to get me through!).

It's certainly possible the motherboard is the problem, but there are other things we can check first.

Take out the hard drive, install it in another machine, and run SeaTools for DOS on it. Also try booting up the computer with no hard drive installed, see if at least you get a different error.

Take out all but one stick of RAM, and see if that helps. If not, try a different stick.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I was able to get the machine up again this morning. More Blue Screens. Ugh.

I found Driver Sweeper and removed the video files. Uninstalled what I could and installed new nVidia drivers from their site. Updated to SP1 for Win7. Seemed to be doing OK then I started up a game to stress test it a bit. about 5 minutes in, it crashed.

I've attached the latest crash reports. I hope they help.

It all seems to be related to video, but I got a BSOD even with the video card removed, just running on the Motherboard.

I don't see anything in the logs pointing toward a video issue; no 0x117 events, no errors in Event Logs, no 0x116 bugchecks...

It does seem as if this is a hardware issue though. If the POST issues aren't indication enough, the lack of useful error messages are. I did find these two though:

Can I assume that SP1 was installed prior to your last crash but after the others? For some reason I'm not able to read your latest dump file. I'm just getting "unavailable" messages. (Just read JK's post. Yes it was!!)

update: I think it's the DVD drive.

I've run all the test suggested an nothing is wrong in the tests.
The error that Johnathan_King pointed out got me thinking about a similar issue I had a LONG time ago, so I unplugged the DVD drive.

No more Blue Screens.

Let's hope you're sorted. If nothing happens in, say, a week, could you please give us feedback? May help someone with a similar issue.
