Windows 7: BSODs are terrible things.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
BSODs are terrible things.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Full Retail Version.

The system is about 1 year old, with the RAM replaced about 2-3 months ago after the last set died. I last re-installed in August 2010.

I'm getting either crashes (that require restarts) or BSODs while running Adobe After Effects CS5. I'll be running it just fine, I'll start a RAM preview, and after it's done rendering and I want it to start playing the preview, the screen glitches up - and I have to restart the computer. It just started happening today, just randomly (no new installed applications, I had run a RAM Preview 5 minutes earlier). Help?

And on a semi-related note, I also get "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_TO" BSODs on occasion, and those are definitely random.

And if this helps at all - this computer is custom built - I got all the parts of Newegg.

Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads

when you're done you can use this Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) in its place. MagicISO - Convert BIN to ISO, Create, Edit, Burn, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter/extractor/editor

I know that can't be the case, though. It doesn't cause sporadic BSOD's, and it's never caused me problems before. :/

And you probably have never had BSOD's before. Drivers dont exist in a vacuum. A change in one causes a change in another. It is a huge cause of BSOD's

2 dumps are not really much to go on but if I look at your windows Error Report and see that pretty much every game crashes it sure looks like defective RAM (or RAM that doesn't 100% match the Board...cross check the voltage settings with the manufacturer's recommendations.)
The first crash blamed a DirectX driver
dxgmms1.sys Sat Nov 20 04:49:53 2010 (4CE799C1)
You could get a newer version here
Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

You should de-install Daemon tools because the resident driver
sptd.sys Sun Oct 11 16:55:14 2009 (4AD24632)
is a notorious BSOD candidate. To get rid of it, check out DuplexSecure You're better off using MagicDisk/MagicIso etc.

To verify the RAM situation, follow this tut (esp. point 3)

Heh - I have had BSOD's before, unfortunately.
Anyways - I downloaded it, and I started uninstalling it, and I got an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD.

And @SledgeDG:
As far as I've seen, it hasn't happened on games - only in After Effects after it tries to play back what it's rendered in RAM. It's been working again - so it could have just been overheating maybe?
And - I ran the uninstaller again, and it worked.

Those weren't BSODs just Application errors by itself no big deal but when they appear in great numbers it could be an indicator for less than optimal RAM. Of course overheating can cause errors and sometimes BSODs. If that tends to happen, get this to check the temperatures frequently.
Core Temp

Anyhow, by getting rid of sptd.sys you made a huge step towards a more stable system
watch the temps and the system over the next couple of days.
If you'd like a stess test to be sure I would use this
just watch the temps for the first 20, 30 minutes

You're very welcome. You know there are several other programs like that, which don't rely on said dreaded stpd.sys
Besides the aforementioned Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview
there is also SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive (which both work just fine here)
and this one (which I haven't tested myself yet) Gizmo Central -- Enliven your PC
