BSOD numerous times on a new machine

    Hello,

My computer arrived on April 30th 2011, so it's new and I'm getting the BSOD.

I've gotten it after sleep mode, during internet browsing and using word. The problem occurred after I downloaded content from STEAM. I had to reload Steam afterward as well. Coincidence? Beats me!

I have attached Dump Files in a Zipped format.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

    AMD Dragon...something

    AMD Phenom II
    x6 109T Processor
    3.20 GHZ

    8 Gig of Ram
    64 Bit Operating System

AMD Radeon 6800 Series Video Card

Ok! I uninstalled AVG and loaded Microsoft Security Essentials. I'll report back if I get any BSOD.

On a side-note how come AVG took a few weeks to cause me trouble, why not right away? Perhaps an update on their part?

Crashed this morning while browsing the internet. The screen went 'funny' and windows tried to check for problems. BSOD.

I restarted the computer and windows wanted to check for problems. BSOD.

I restarted again and told it not to check for problems and it didn't crash. Well, not yet. It's been 10 minutes.

The two dump files are included.

    Thanks for your help.

Memory corruption by an as yet unknown driver. Please run memtest, and driver verifier

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

    Driver verifier

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

    Then, here's the procedure:
    - Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
    - Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
    - Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Ok, I was able to get memtest onto a CDROm, ran it and as it ran errors came up into the 7th test or so. I'm a novice at using this program, so forgive me if I'm misinterpreting something.

Once I see red errors, it kept scrolling and finding more errors.

What do I do at this point? Does memtest just run continually? When errors are found am I supposed to do something?

    Thanks.

If you find critical errors either the meory or the motherboard slot is bad. test the memory one stick at a time and when you find a good one try it in each mother board slot to confirm which.

Hey, in other news the sound on my computer has now gone 'quiet' and crackly. This computer is just over 30 days old, are you fairly certain it is memory or motherboard? Both options will have me on the phone with Cyberpower.

Use the date from memtest to talk to Cyberpower. If it is under warranty it is ALWAYS better to have them take care of it.
