    BSOD 0x00000124

    Hello my fellow computer geeks.

I have encountered my first BSOD on my first computer built. I apologize for sounding like an amateur as it is my first time dealing with this problem.

    Problem:
So, one day I start my computer and it blue screens with the STOP error 0x00000124. I assume it's the BIOS so I update it. But, I also notice that the hard drive with the OS (Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) is not detected so I take out all of the hard drives and put in a brand new one with the intention of reformatting my computer and installing Windows 7 Home 64-bit.

However, when I boot my CD drive to install the OS, the BSOD pops up after loading the initial black Windows loading screen appears.

So, I am left with an unfortunate problem. I have a computer without an OS that blue screens every time I boot to try to install the OS.

    Treaments:
I've reset the CMOs by taking out the battery and updated with the latest BIOs
I've stripped the computer to the bare minimum (1 hard drive, 1 cd-drive, mobo, graphics card).

    Specs:
    ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s
    CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2
    CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
    Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366
    MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16
    Samsung 1TB Hard Drive
CD/DVD drive of some brand (I figure that this and the hard drive are not really relevant).

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot run any diagnostic test since the OS is non-existent.

These assume desktop, if laptop dont.

A couple more things to try.

Pull all the ram but one stick

Try booting from the OS dvd with the HD removed

    Unplug the DVD player

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.

I took out all but one RAM stick and it worked. But my question now is how do I make the computer operational with all three RAM channels occupied??

Ram may be the problem so you may not be able to. Have you tested the ram stick by stick with memtest?

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

So, the mobo is probably broken if it continues to BSOD 0x124 whenever I try to insert a second RAM? I tried it with both the other RAM sticks but each time I do and boot, BSOD 0x124 occurs. This means that I have to get a new mobo or are there some fixes for this?

It can either be the ram or mobo slot. take a known good ram and test in each slot.
