    BSOD - please help!

    Hi all,

I have followed the instructions as requested for BSOD issues and attached the zipped folder to this thread.

Recently had a blue screen of death while I was working and having looking in the dump folder it seems I have had a couple before now over the past few months. This makes sense since I have left my machine locked overnight and then come back into work to find it back at the logon screen so must have restarted itself overnight.

    - Home built PC
    - Running Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit (retail upgrade)
    - Machine is approximately 7 months old

I would be very grateful if someone could help point me to the source of the problem since I'd like to get it resolved. Mainly used as a work machine.

Many thanks and hope to hear from someone soon.

    Dan

P.S. In the process of installing Windows 7 SP 1 too.

It's pointing to one of the main directx system files as the source.
This is more than likely an indication of a graphics driver problem (at least that's what it looks like on the surface)

My suggestion is to clean out the current driver and reinstall fresh.
Here's a good tool to completely clean out the driver (as the actual uninstaller doesn't do that)
    Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

Also I notice you have the old ASACPI.sys driver loading, this is a huge red flag on all the driver reference sites

    ASACPI.sys Fri Aug 13 05:52:52 2004 (411C2D04)

Wed Oct 18 01:44:46 2006 (4535BF4E) Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility (a known BSOD maker in Win7). Also a part of the Asus PCProbe and AISuite Utilities ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download

You need to either remove the supporting applications or attempt to find a more recent version of it. It's known to be very problematic with windows 7.

    Code:
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.

    Hi Maguscreed,

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my message.

I had some old nvidia drivers/programs lying around which were left over from a time when I used a GTX graphics card for a while so have removed these.

I uninstalled my ATI drives for my Radeon 6800 graphics card and downloaded an updated Catalyst Control Centre bundle from the Radeon website and installed this too.

In terms of the ACPI Utility I don't have neither the Asus PCProbe nor AISuite Utility programs hence do you think I can uninstall this device which is listed in my Device Manager?

    Many thanks

    Dan

    Actually having just seen this:

ASUS ATK0110 ACPI Utility can't remove from System

Do you think I'm better going into Safe Mode and just disabling it (currently both uninstall and disable are greyed out)?

well it is loading as a active driver, and it is known to cause problems.
If cleaning up the graphics drivers works, you can leave it alone, if the problem continues I do suggest removing it or attempting to update it if possible though.
I have it on my own system and it has never caused a problem, it is a very common issue causer though all the same.

thanks for your help Maguscreed. I'll monitor the situation over the next couple of months but hopefully updating the graphics drivers has resolved the problem. May revisit this thread in the future should I have any more problems but for now am happy for this post to be set to solved for the time being?

    Thanks again.

    Hi

Set my PC running over the weekend on an analysis I needed to undertake and came back in this morning to find myself at the logon screen again. Had another BSOD following the changes I made described previously. I've ran the performance monitor and executable again to compile the reports (please see attached).

Please can you let me know if there is any information on the source of this error? Can ATK0110 ACPI be confirmed as the source of my most recent BSOD?

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

    Dan

P.S. I notice that the post has been marked as "Solved" - should I start a new thread or is it ok to continue with this one?

    Well...

I have updated the ATK0110 ACPI driver from version 1043.2.15.37 to version 1043.6.0.0 using the drivers linked to on this page:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- ASACPI.SYS i want to update it

Hopefully, if ATK0110 is the source of my BSOD this has resolved the problem... Only time will tell I guess.

BSOD - updated graphics drivers and ATK0110 but still happening

    Hi all,

Have logged a previous post on my recent BSOD instances and have reinstalled my graphics drivers and updated ATK0110 as advised, however I came in this morning and my PC had suffered a BSOD over the weekend.

Attached are the most recent log files as per the posting instructions. Could someone have a look and let me know whether there are any indications of a problem elsewhere? I'm not really sure what to look for myself.

Many thanks and I hope to hear from someone soon!

    Hi Dan and welcome

Can you please post this in the other thread. It gives more continuity and you will get more help there.
