Viewing file associations crashes explorer
Hi,
I have a Dell D830 running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. This PC was running Vista and Windows 7 was installed as an upgrade in December.
I was suspicious about some search results not turning up documents that should be indexed and when I try and look at the indexing options/advanced/file types the index application crashes. The same thing happens when I try and look at default settings/file types.
So far I have performed a registry clean using Advanced Uninstaller Pro, performed a Windows repair, installed SP1, and turned off all non-Microsoft third party extensions. I just performed a full virus scan with Symantic using the most recent virus file definitions. It did find trogen.gen2, which was removed. I ran two spyware applications (malwarebytes and Superantispyware) and found no issues. I ran the SFC /scannow utility, which found no issues. I tried to set the default program to internet explorer as well as the Windows Search Explorer. I booted in safemode and default programs utility does not work at all. I created a new user and the new user has the same problem. I removed all items from the index locations and file types still crashes the index options utility.
It looks like a security access error but I am running as administrator. Could this be a registry issue?
I have attached both error messages and a mini dump file.
Regards,
Mike
