Windows 7: Here's my BSOD problem :)

Yeah, I figured it would be just mine here... but I'm just trying to reach for any answer here for anything. Everything happening at once can really stress a person out. So, I'm just trying anything. But given that all three computers, even yesterday when I shut the Win7 one down because of storms experience the horrible connection, I figured it wouldn't be the laptop causing the whole thing to be lousy. But like I said, with things happening the same time, just trying to find (hopefully easy) answers and whatnot. Ready to become amish or something... LOL

I don't know if it's related to the thing I downloaded yesterday or what, but while I have no blue screens for you, I've had a few freezes today, and given I have core temp come on when the computer does, I saw that each time (coicidentally or what) that when it froze, the temps on both cores were in the 150s, or close, or hit in the 150s for a little bit and like right now froze at 149/145. This time I was following a site that does not have video mostly, but it does bring up ads once in a while that you can not x out of, and that's when it froze. A while ago, same temps, went to watch last night's Tonight Show and it froze. Before that with one of them I was getting Tweedeck up, while waiting for the Facebook column, that had a temp jump up. Think one freeze was just getting the system up from the freeze before, and not actually doing anything myself the temps were around that range, 145-150s. Could be pure coincidence, but given it's not actually a bs with dump files for you, it's all I can give you.

PS - The internet is better today, but while it made no sense that would be involved with any of this, and makes more sense to thing it's the cable company regardless of what they say (give that it wasn't bad consistently over the past couple of days), still, just thought I'd let you know, and yeah, probably no bearing. Yikes. LOL

Can you try something that sounds a bit drastic but it might help to (dis)prove your temp angle:

I don't know how you 'place' your notebook but please try something extraordinary to cool it. Like using two books or something on which the back corners of the LT rest and using a normal house fan to force air from the side (not the back) under the notebook.

Also, if not done already, use a safe vacuumcleaner (not on high power) to clean all air inlets/outlets whilst the LT is off, ofcourse...

Let's see if that makes a diff?

Well, I vacuumed it before, and I only have the one, so if it was too high, well, it's the best I got. As for the rest, that is also the best I can do. I have this one table, and I actually have it elevated on a bit of angle with note pads. I've done this ever since my first laptop, where I was having a problem with it just shutting off, no apparent reason. The first thing google suggested was that it was overheating, so I started doing that. (as an aside, that ended up being the plug as the problem, you know where you put the plug in in any laptop, that was loose or whatever. But I still continued to keep it a bit elevated ever since). Given that we do not have a/c, I have a fan on, and that is near me, which is near the computer. The fan is as low as I can ever get it, so while it's not as directly pointing at it as it could be, there has been something going there.

Anyway, thus far it's been okay, got Tweetdeck up and have been online, the highest temp hit thus far is 135/131, but been generally lower than that. But it's only been on for ~ two hours. I am approaching the time when the antivirus is going to start running, and that might have been the first freeze yesterday. Really wanting to shut that down, but guess that's not a good idea.

OKay, I couldn't get myself to let the scan keep going, but given that I'm pretty sure the temp jumped up really soon after it started yesterday, it didn't go up so much this time. The mostly in those couple of minutes it hit was 120, think when I went to stop scanning, it might jumped to 127. But quite different from yesterday. So, guess I'll keep watching.

Well, I just shut off the Win7 laptop, all by myself... it was on for a bit over 12 hours today, and it stayed on for those 12 hours. Now, mind you, I didn't do five things at once, did try a bit of video, but short bits here and there, and just was scared away from letting the antivirus scan run, but the thing stayed on. I did raise it a tiny bit, I moved the note pads to the back and put a slightly taller tissue box in the front (not a regular sized one, but a purse size box. The highest the temp reached was 136/133, but that was probably this morning, it really stayed more in between 100-the 120s. I haven't a clue if this was the problem, a symptom of it, or pure and total coincidense... but we get to do it all again tomorrow. Guess I will have to let the antivirus scan run... ugh, just wish the computer would actually come out and say what it's problem is and how to fix it, or if it actually has been fixed now. But only Star Trek computers do that, darn it. LOL

I see that your not "on A/C"? What are you running on? And are you sure it is clean power?

By not letting the AV run, do you mean "not letting it run a system scan" or " not letting it keep a real-time guard"?

The first is no problem, you dont have to do that everyday... the latter is more of a challenge...
If it is the first...then dont do the scan for a period of at least two to three days to prove your system works fine and then we do the scan (with nothing else on)...

Oh, no, I meant air conditioning -- since we don't have that, and it's summer, there is usually a fan going. And yeah, the daily scan, not shutting down the program totally. Though I was tempted to do that just to try something.

Today was another (apparently) good day, no BS's, freezes, whatever. The highs that it hit was 138/135, but typically stayed within 110s-120s when I was doing something. I set the antivirus to scan only on the weekends, so I don't have to worry about that for a few days. And I was a little bit more lack of a better word, aggressive with my internet surfing and going back and forth between that and Tweetdeck. Only more brief video watching, but given that The Daily Show/Colbert Report/Tonight Show will have their new episodes tomorrow, guess I really should get myself to try something longer. So will try the Tonight Show, since I only watch at most 15 minutes, and see what happens there. Can't you tell I'm utterly paranoid here? LOL
