Yep, not a single ATAPI error since installing the new SATA ACHI driver in the "RST and AHCI Driver and GUI" file package. I have been using my computer as usual and no errors. So case solved for my part .

This seems to be a general problem on some windows 7 systems.

I have this errors pop up every time I insert a USB mass storage device. Usually 2 hits in the even viewer and sometimes it happens after I start transferring some data if the USB was plugged in for long on idle.

I may have an old intel RST AHCI drivers (i don't use raid only ahci with 6 HDDs) as I installed my windows 7 on April 2013 when I got this new PC.

It's a bogus error message, nothing's wrong with the USBs, it's a bug in the software. It doesn't matter whether I plug it into USB2 or USB3 port and it doesn't matter whether is USB2 or USB3 stick.

Just letting everyone else know, but, if you don't have this exact same case, it may not apply.

To this day I see "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR3." intermittently upon login to a Windows 7 system with a Western Digital MyBook drive that's always plugged-in.

It does not happen with the same drive plugged into a Windows 8.1 system. So perhaps its a bug that's been fixed, but no one at Microsoft ever though it important enough to back port into Windows 7.
