Frequent BSODs

I just recently started getting multiple bsods in a row. Before it used to be sporadic but it has increased in frequency today and today only. It would boot up windows normally but after I login, it would immediately give me a bsod. I used to have a legacy sound card installed but removed it when experiencing sporadic bsods months ago.

This computer last night tried to download and install the new service pack and I do not know if it completed. (this is my gf's computer and cannot describe what she did)

Just some general info, Windows 7 64bit home edition.
Hardware is a 1.5 years old. OS installation is also about same age.

Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).


2- Run memtest


Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Thank you for the quick response zigzag. I have downloaded and installed the new driver and ran several passes of memtest just as you prescribed. Memtest came back with no errors after 6 full passes. I will keep you posted on the stability. Thanks again!

Hey zigzag. Its been 3 weeks of stability and out of the blue there was a system update on Tuesday. After the system update all hell broke loose again. 5 Bsods in a row and I cannot figure out the problem. The last string of bsods also happened during system updates. I wonder if there is a connection. I have attached a zip file for your use. I am hoping you are able to help me again. Thanks again.
