I managed to get it recovered and followed your steps. I uninstaled all asus software, and ran the hard disk checks. It passed the long test. I installed speedfan, temps seemed to be stable. Then I ran the blend test. about 30 seconds in, the fans starting revving up, I noticed from speedfan that it was overheating at 54C. It soon crashed, with the BSOD below.
The computer also wouldn't start up after this. I left it off for about ten minutes before turning it back on and it started up okay. I atteched the BSOD dump and perfmon (hopefully the last one), although this crash hasn't shown up in maintenance history yet.
I guess we can conclude that this is an overheating issue. I will have to take the computer back in for service. Thankfully, the hardware's still in warranty, and now that I can pinpoint the problem, they should be able to fix it this time. I'll leave the thread as unsolved until I can verify that it's been fixed. Thanks for your help.
