Windows 7: Computer not even blue screening just restarting

03 Aug 2011   #11

Windows 7 64b Ultimate

If this exact configuration has been stable for a longer time before the current problems, I can think of only a few reasons why it would mess up now:

1. First build had / found the right timings/voltages and frequency for this combi of mobo and ram. I allways get careful and suspicious when I can't see the MEM Stick in the list of supported ram for the mobo: ASRock > Products > 890GX Pro3 > Memory Support List
Again, apparantly it worked before.. but that might mean special settings + you need to know what you are doing. I am not familiar with this board, so no idea whether the timings and voltages for your RAM (see: G.SKILL-Products ) fit yours and your board.

So.. one option is: default correct settings on first build... and something messed that up. Could be BIOS change/flash/update or an attempt (un)knowingly, to OC.

Again, as memtest does its testing without any W7 help.... it is definately HW and/or BIOS and/or BIOS settings related.

Not to make things hard for you, but I get the feeling you are not really into clocks, voltages etc... so I must come to the conclusion that even IF I'm right in this assessment, you still need to get expert help in a shop or from a knowledgeable friend who can test and check your system hands-on.

When a Computer restart itself with no BSOD, it is usually a Heating problem or a Memory corruption problem.

Try your ram in others machines. Verify your temperatures.

That's the best way to start your investigation, along with all others advice provided before by others great members.

You're welcome. To save you some time please remember what you already know through the testing in this thread:

1. The Ram sticks themselves are/were probably ok. They are not the main problem.
2. If your previous post info is correct, then you have incorrect settings for this ram in this mobo. Theoretically that can blow the sticks. But to be have to try a combination of mobo and Ram in correct settings first and prove that works.
3. Use the info in my previous post with a local expert to test the combination of mobo, ram stick(s) and their settings.
4. If possible, start testing by using an approved RAM Stick (see second link in previous post) with default timings, frequency and voltage on this mobo.
