BSOD (motherboard prob maybe?)

Hi all

I've been getting the BSOD the last few days while on my PC. It mainly seems to occur when I've got a lot of tabs open in my web browser, or sometimes while playing a game.

I can leave the computer idling with very little load on the hardware and it won't crash.

I can also listen to music and watch video, including 1080p, and it won't crash.

Once after a reboot the BIOS indicated no HDDs on any of the SATA ports were detected. I unplugged SATA leads and replugged them in, and now the machine will boot into windows again, but I still get the BSOD.

I ran SeaTools to check my Seagate drive, which is only about 7 weeks old and also running windows. SeaTools indicated no problems. Although.... I didn't run the advanced tools as I wasn't quite sure if they would lose any data.

I ran memtest86 to check the memory. It reported no errors, but I've only run the test once, will have to run it a few more times tonight.

I made an attempt at looking through the dmp file myself but I keep getting an error indicating "Your debugger is not using correct symbols".

If anyone could help me find out what the problem is, I'm guessing it's my motherboard, I would be greatly appreciative. The motherboard & CPU are going on their 5th year and I know I'll eventually have to replace the lot, but I'm hoping I can get another 9-12 months out of this machine.

Thanks
Onji

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads

when you're done you can use this Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) in its place.

Hi Zigzag

Thanks for that info man, I was worried that it might be a hardware problem. I'll give that a shot and put some load on the system with a few apps. I'll report back with my findings. Thanks again.

Cheers
