[BSOD] Enabling Crossfire on Catalyst newer than 10.11

I use Apple Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) with the following specs:

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    2x Intel Xeon E5472 3.0 GHz
    32 GB DDR2 FB-DIMM Micron/Hynix
    2xATI Radeon HD5770 1 GB DDR5 XFX + Apple genuine
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    Apple Cinema HD Display 23"
    1x Kingston SSDNow 40 GB
    4x Kingston SSDNow S100 SS100S2/16G
    2x Samsung HD502HJ 500 GB
    1x Seagate ST3500418AS 500 GB
    PIONEER BD-ROM BDC-202 BluRay drive
    Areca ARC-1210 RAID Controller
    Delta Electronics 980W
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard + Logitech Performance Mouse MX.

I would like to enable Crossfire in Catalyst Control Panel, but it do not work on drivers newer than Catalyst 10.11.

I got BSOD on atimkdag.sys. How to fix it ?

Tried Driver Sweeper but no luck, even installing fresh system didn't worked.

Hi Spacedust welcome to SF :)

For the atimkdag.sys error,is a good idea to update your ati driver.

You have problems with the new catalyst? Ok then download and install only the newest drivers not the catalyst by choosing Individual Downloads http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Or download the full ati software/driver,and during the installation choose custom and disable/untik/ the new catalyst from the list, that way you instal and update everything except the catalyst.

You can also stress/test your graphics with Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Well you have one and only minidump and that points to hardware error propably CPU.

    For this run https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

    ---------------
Finish with the above steps and post back with any results.

Even the newest official ATI Catalyst driver 11.7 do not work. Manual upgrade with driver only also doesn't work.

    GPU's and CPU's are OK.

The funny thing it that 10.11 are working OK with Crossfire. Only newer ones are causing BSOD.

Installed new system with all updates, service pack 1 and the latest drivers. When enabling Crossfire BSOD :/

Can you check what's wrong ?

''GPU's and CPU's are OK"" You mean you test them or you just assume are ok?

You have 2 new minidumps and both points to atikmdag.sys.

Is also a good idea to update the motherboard chipset and bios, this in many cases helps the motherboard in Sli,crossfire and ram compatibility.

    Also update DirectX.

Yes. Runned Prime95 on all 8 cores and Furmark on both graphics for long time and no problems. I got the latest EFI firmware from Apple and Intel chipset drivers.

On Catalyst 10.11 and older everythings works ok. Starting from Catalyst 10.12 BSOD.

I got the latest version of DirectX.

I know this is not the answer you expect, but lots of people have issues with the newest ati catalyst software and drivers.

And the solution/advice was to stick with the older catalyst and wait for new and better drives.

They probably messed something begginning from 10.12. This is strictly AMD fault. I cannot blame XFX or Apple.

    Yes your right.

I will do some more research though,if i will find anything i will post.

In meantime you can try few things yourself, for example change slots between graphics.

I know these are not answers but sometimes works.

I'm sending support ticket to AMD. Maybe they will help.

Apple is not supporting CrossFire at all. Why they need to support something that only works on Windows

It was blocked in older drivers, but currently it's unblocked. I've even replaced crossfire bridge, but no luck.
