Mouse freeze - shut down freeze - BSOD
Hi!
My not very technical brother bought a brand new ASUS G74S laptop a week ago. Two BSODs have occured since.
First time:
All we had done was changing the anti virus program in to avast! and installing all Windows updates. When my brother started Windows Media Player, it hanged during the first time setup, ie the computer was working and working but never finished. After some time, the mouse pointer froze and then moved sporadically, in big chunks at a time. He left the computer like this for a while, until he decided to try to reboot. After he had hit the reboot button in the start menu using the keyboard, a "Waiting for a program to close" screen was shown. It waited for taskeng.exe. After he had waited for a while, he hit the "force shut down" button. Then the computer froze at the "Windows is being shut down" screen for about half an hour, until a BSOD was shown. (I hope you understand what I mean with all the text in quotes, I translated those from Swedish - it might not say exactly so in English versions of Windows.)
Second time:
Since last time, we had installed a few programs, and removed a few. We weren't doing anything on the computer (a program was open, though, but there was no work in progress) for the moment, when suddenly them mouse pointer started to behave like the first time. Then everything proceeded just like last time.
The BSODs said:
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
*** STOP: 0x0000009F (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8009623060, 0xFFFFF80000B9C3D8)
Basic system spec of his computer:
Windows 7 Home Premium
- x64
- It IS the original installed OS on the system.
- OEM
- The computer was bought a week ago.
- The OS has NOT been re-installed.
I've attached the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 folder, but unfortunately I can't attach the perfmon html file, since an error occurred when I ran it. See the attached image. Here is an English translation of it:
Error:
An error occurred when the report was to be created.
The waiting time for the report creator to start has run out.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
