Windows 7: Windows 7 Explorer Continuously Crashing

Ok, so before leaving out for town I tried a full reinstall once more and it worked like a charm. No crashing what so ever with explorer. Even after updating Windows and installing my common normal programs it still ran perfectly. So apparently problem solved, unfortunately without a clue of what caused it in the first place.

Now it's hoping it doesn't come back.

hi,

I hope you guys are still around as this thread is pretty old now.... but i seem to be experiencing the exact same problems with the asus u36sd notebook on windows 7 professional 64bit. i noticed that windows explorer kept crashing a few weeks ago and i've tried everything i can think of and many suggestions to fix it...but no luck.

I've tried

sfc /scanow-------no fix
antivirus scan------no fix
windows updates----no fix
asus updates-----no fix
safe mode-------no fix

After all of this i just reset the notebook to factory intstalation to start over. And installed all windows updates and asus updates......no fix

I then tried the same as above but with no asus updates.....fixed.....but.....i thought the problem was sorted, i just wouldn't install any asus updates but one day some of the programs i installed just disappeared...shortcuts were left but didnt link to anything....and my wall paper reset to the original factory asus image......and windows explorer started crashing again!!...my heart sank once again...

soooo ...i did another fresh factory reset.....and first thing i did was uninstall as much asus stuff as i could before using or installing anything else....but upon restart explorer was crashing again....

Really not sure whats going on or how to fix this... It would be really useful to hear if humpake still has this problem or not??

oh yes...hope i'm not speaking to soon....but...i think its fixed.

Found a thread online with someone with the same laptop and it was suggested that uninstalling the ASUS online storage app fixes the problem as there is a dodgy 64bit dll in there.. So got rid of it and all seems to be working....touch wood.

Thanks alot for your reply here. I recently bought an Asus N55SF-S1194V laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Opened the box today and after like 15 minutes the windows explorer crashes started happening. Tried several things, updates, remove/disable as much Asus stuff as possible, still the same problem...

Uninstalling the Asus online storage app fixed it nice one Asus
Where did you find this thread online?
