pc has completeley frozen after going to sleep

Would love to try this but this is the first time my pc has completeley frozen after going to sleep and I cannot even do a hard restart. I turn off the button all goes quiet, then when I tune it back on, the fan starts up, I get a couple of noises and then nothing, black screen and no further sounds from tower.
Tearing my hair out as I have work I haven't save for over a month - yes my silly fault. But I really need to know why this has happened - only had one symptom before where it took a while for it to wake up via the space bar. Would have changed sleep settings then if I had known what was coming!!
Thanks for any help.
PS my pc shop closed now for weekend!!!

Hello Juliet, welcome to SF!

Please try totally disconnecting your system from external power. Take out the power cable. Turn PSU powerswitch (at the back of the tower near the powercable inlet... if you have such a switch) off, on, off whilst the cable is disconnected. Then, while switch is off, plug in the cable again and turn on power, see if it does boot.

If it does, turn off ALL energysaving modes.

If this does not help... try to see if you can get into BIOS or Safe Mode

Thanks so much for that. Tried it and also took out all usb connected items as that was advice from another forum. So of course the keyboard had stopped working so I would never have been abain BIOS Checksdum error"le to get into BIOS or safe mode without that! lol
However, it worked and got it up but initially had message
"Main BIOS Checksum error" ???
and it started counting. Then screen went blank again then it came back and there was everything how I'd left it yesterday.
Have taken off hybrid sleep and wondered should I now:
1. go into the USB properties and turn off allowing pc to turn off this device to save power, as suggested by another guy, and
2. do I need to do anythig to BIOS settings, although I'm not too good with that stuff - not really touched that before.

frozen laptop
I was wondering if by running Norton and Windows Security Essentials simultaneously (which I was accidentally doing) could that be the reason why my laptop has been 'freezing', meaning the mouse, and none of the keys work. So now I have neither installed, and after doing a system restore, I'm...
