    BSOD error. Expertice needed.

    Hi all,

New here. Directed here from another pc forum.

Got a BSOD this yesterday morning at startup. I managed to read part of the message that was displayed. A unexpected error and win would shut down. A dump was made.
Win did a auto restart with the well known options screen and all was fine.
I checked the even log and noticed that this error has happened 6 times since april. I had not noticed the first 5.
I did have the MB replaced in april on a service contract because the PCI Expres port had died. Is the same problem with the PCI Express port re-occuring? Or could it be the replaced MB?
Note: i'm unfamiliar with event log options so do not want to muck around in it in case i screw something up.

    NOTE:
I have noticed something since MB was replaced.
Any HTML file in a user folder will not open in IE8 (if IE is set as default browser), i just get a popup asking if i want to save the file.

I followed the instructions in the main BSOD post and added a screenshot of the event screen to the zip file.

The particulars of my desktop are.
    Acer Aspire M3641
    Came originally with Vista.

    Windows 7 is ...
    - Enterprise x86.
    -Installed in Feb 2011.
    - School VLK version.
    - PC purchased Jan 2009.
    - Age of OS instalation = Feb 2011.
    - OS Reinstalled fresh = No.
    - SP1 and all critical patches installed.

Thanks for reading and any help will be appreciated.

    Greets.

Hi Confused12345 welcome to SF :)

Please update your nVidia Ethernet Networking Driver
    Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Unistall and clean Avira from your system using the http://dlpro.antivir.com/down/window...cleaner_en.zip

    Download and install mse
Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

    Enable windows firewall.

    -----------------------
Finish with the above steps and post back with any results.

    Hiya Panais,

    Thank you for the welcome.

    The drivers can be done.

Am personally not that keen to use registry cleaners. Have found they cause more problems than they solve.

Will a simple uninstall of avira not suffice?

MSE is already installed and is running concurrent to avira without problems except for 1 program i use.

I also run MalwareBytes and Spybot roughly every 1 to 2 weeks.

You mean you have both installed avira and mse?

""Will a simple uninstall of avira not suffice?"" In many cases uninstallations leave fragments behind and fragments gives troubles.

    Uninstall
    avira,restart,use this http://dlpro.antivir.com/down/window...cleaner_en.zip
it will clean only avira fragments.

    2 antivirus
together is not a good idea,in many cases that cause bsod and more.

    My advise use only MSE.

    Hiya Panais,

    >>You mean you have both installed avira and mse?

Yes had so under Vista and since installing win7 enterprise. Has given me no problems except for 1 program i use namely Arles.

The quad core seems to handle these 2 AV with no problems. Without much loss of performance.

And yes i know of the advice NOT to run 2 AV concurently. But i have had avira catch something that mse missed and visaversa.

Is not about quad core cpu usage,i think you miss the point.

If you insist to keep them both, then,

Dont use 2 Antivirus together with both in Real time protection mode.

Enable real time protection in one, while using the other for the occasional full scan.

    Hiya Panais,

Sorry for the late reply, had some hospital appointments.

So can either Avira or MSE (preverably avira if i have to choose) be setup such that it does not run resident. I already got rid of Adaware for the reason that i could not find a way to disable the resident mode in the newer versions.

MalwareBytes at least gives one the option to switch resident mode off.

Btw, the BSOD i got was the first one since the MB was replaced back back in april so the whole bsod problem this time may be just a fallen bit which windows loading choked on and caused the restart.

Some more hospital visits this week but when i get a chance i will reseat the mem modules check for loose contacts and update device drivers from device manager. Also look around avira some more to check if resident mode can be stopped.
