    Random Computer Power Cutouts

My computer randomly turns off. It doesn't shut down, but instead just turns off as if someone yanked the power cord out. I suspected an overheating CPU, so I cleaned out my heatsink, and I am running at a cool 50 degrees Celsius, but the problem still occurs. Also, I just upgraded to a new PSU, so i hope that is not the source of the problem.

An odd observation that I have made is that the power cutouts only happen when 1) i am actively using my computer , or 2) a background program such as "backup agent" is running. I can stream media from the PC for hours to my Xbox with no issues at all. Also, if the computer will be fine for days if I do not use it and none of those background utility programs run.

I was hoping that someone would be familiar with this situation and/or would have some troubleshooting tips. I don't want to go replacing parts until I know whats wrong.

Please let me know if any additional information will help, and thanks!

Hi and welcome to seven forums.

Sounds like something is killing it real quick, could certainly be a few things, guess you need to rule them out 1 by 1.

Do you have another PSU you could use temporarily to see if the new one is the culprit and faulty?
