BSOD's, computer freezes, other glitches - oh my!

Hi - I have been working with a three year old computer that has given me a lot of problems for about the last two and a half years. Over that time I have had the hard drive replaced three times and the power supply once.

I finally got fed up, bought a super new pc, and a couple of weeks ago tried to see if I could salvage the old pc with a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit, retail). I am not having much luck, as the system continues to have many of the same problems as before - freezes, crashes and USB devices (mouse, external hard drive) stop working.

There is not much sofware installed on the old pc. I did get all of the latest drivers from the MSI website. I have tested the memory - no problems.

Here are my system specs -Processor INTEL QUAD 9550
    Mainboard MSI P45 Neo
    R.A.M. 6GB DDR 2
    Harddrive TB WD SATAII
    1.44 MB FLOPPY drive
    LG CD-Writer DVD-RW
    Videocard GeForce GTS 250
    Case THERMALTAKE MATRIX WITH 650W

This pc always ran a little hot (70 deg C and up) under moderate loads. I believe it may have overheated at least once before I fine-tuned my BOINC installation.

So I suspect that there is at least one hardware problem - any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Dave

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.

You can read more on this error and what to try here... Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
