no BSOD while doing graphically intense gaming

hey peeps, I'm a pretty technically minded individual and I can generally diagnose most faults and problems with my rig, but this one has been stumping me for ages and tonight it really hit a nerve, so i'm asking my friends in a box to help me, here's the diagnostics from performance monitor and that handy little BSOD program.

My computer will freeze when playing games(No BSOD shown), my temps do get toasty but I've added a custom temperature rule to follow via the NV control panel on the GPU, so I shouldn't have a problem with heating, I suspect RAM or motherboard, but hopefully i'm wrong because I don't have the $$$ to relace parts at the moment.

Please do the following as your zip file contains no .dmp files which we need:

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.


To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi Seth, I don't get a BSOD so I cannot provide you with any dump files, it just freezes so it doesn't even dump the memory or anything, everything is just static on the screen and all audio freezes as well

about 5 minutes after writing this, no dump files were written after replicating the issue, as you can see by this picture here:

What are you exactly doing when the computer freezes on you? Are you able to replicate the freeze?

usually playing Sims 3 or Dirt 3, but it can freeze on rare occasions when sitting idlely on the the desktop, it's very strange indeed, i'm sort of aiming toward a hardware issue but it never freezes on Vista like that, I dual boot Vista and 7 if it freezes again, i'll be sure to capture it's frozen state on video and show you what it's like.

That bios date is pretty old see if you can find an update to your bios. If you need help what kind of mobo is it and model..?

it's in my system specs, Evga NF78-CK-132-A 3-Way SLI

it is, yes, i'm not entirely sure how to upgrade the bios, I don't have a floppy disk or a thumb drive to complete the operation
