Can't uninstall ESET, I get the same problem. I used CCleaner uninstall.
Iam trying to clean the HD via CCleaner uninstall, I found this...Visual Studio 2008 x64 Redistributables AVG Technologies 1/9/2011 42.00 KB 10.0.0.2. It's in the text file I attached before.
I'd say to uninstall it if possible.
If not, then you could try deleting.
Sure hope we don't have to go the remove here, remove there, clean registry, use Autoruns to find any references, etc.
Tried to uninstall with CCleaner. Got same issue. I need to reboot because I didn't answer question yet. I did a quick look and the program seems to be empty folders. Except 1 file. I'll look for hidden as well.
Excellent.
I've also asked for help on this.
Let's see in all of our efforts, have you run SFC /SCANNOW to make sure that the system files are in order?
I think karl has you on the right track - I've never been a fan of AVG, and now we see why.
Only one other thing I can suggest, and I'm not sure this is even an issue, but easy to check:
Are there any unknown User Accounts shown under Parental Controls?
I saw this installed on the sly from an NVidia update recently, so I mention it only to check that AVG hasn't resorted to this same "trick", which might explain the issues with incomplete uninstallation.
Here is the thread showing how a hidden user account can slip under the radar in Parental Controls:
Unknown User Account
