    BSOD playing Dead Island

    Hi All!

I've been getting random BSOD's when playing Dead Island, wich is driving me Insane!

Im using Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Full Retail on a self build PC.

The system itself is about 10 months old.

Age of the OS installation is also 10 months, but I tested it on a seperate, fresh Win7 partition, wich gave the same results.

First time playing, I kept getting the "ATI display driver error has stopped working" error, everytime around 10 minutes play-time, wich would cause the game to freeze for about 10 seconds..

I then updated my Display Drivers & Catalyst Control Center to the latest versions. After that I can play up to an hour and a half, before a random blue screen of death kicks in. Last time I played, it happened in 10 minutes!..

10 months ago, after building this PC, I had some "ATI display driver error has stopped working" errors watching Youtube & other online movies. This hasn't happened since the update (tested with 30 screens loaded and playing at the same time)..

3Dmark11 also works good, no hang ups or weird reports..

Why oh Why do I keep getting these Annoying errors? Could you guys help me figure it out?

    Thanks in advance!!
    Thomas

Hi ThomasQ welcome to SF :)

Do you have the bsod only while playing Dead Island?

Did you test with other games?

    In meantime,

Please Remove and clean mcafee from your system using the mcafeeremover

Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials

    Enable windows firewall.

Update these old drivers, starting from ASACPI.sys= Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility (a known BSOD maker in Win7). Also a part of the Asus PCProbe and AISuite Utilities ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download

    Hi Panais!

    Thanks for your reply.

First: Yes, I only seem to get the BSOD in Dead Island ( at the moment ). At firts they were just "Display Driver Stopped Working" errors, wich I sometimes had with Flash Players, but when updating CCC & drivers, the errors in Dead Island became bluescreens, although more randomly divided. I've hadn't had any problems with flash players after updating..

Game-wise, I can run games like Civilisation V, EVEonline and Crysis 2 no problem..

Is McAfee that bad? Had no idea, removing it while typing this..

After that, I'll get on to the drivers!

Thanks again man, will post back ASAP

If you have the errors only with specific game then it may be a game fault and not a computer fault :)

Though finish the above steps and post back with results.

Tip: Always keep your drivers and windows updated!

    Hi!

Well, most of those drivers were because of my EMU 1616M PCI.. They didn't release any drivers since 2008, but all of a sudden in july 2011 they apparently droppe some new ones..

    Anyway, Results:

BSOD Gone! I was already heavily suspecting that it should be a game fault, because of that program thing. The program still crashes though, but instead of BSOD'ing, I get a error message, through wich I found that it is a Widespread problem with Dead Island.. Have to wait for the updates/bugfixes I guess...

But why is McAfee so harmfull then?

    Thanks again btw

All the above steps they was necessary.

Mcafee in many cases cause bsod.

Old drivers in many cases cause bsod.

So the above step are to eliminate any chance for a new bsod and that's the purpose

Play, work as usual and post back, tomorrow maybe with results and news.:)
