    System Freeze

Win7 Home Premium, 32bit, Sony laptop, 3GB mem, 250GB HDD

Need opinions on why computer froze and action to take:

-Downloaded Google Chrome Beta 15 with adblock and clicknclean addons.

-After about 3 hrs, computer suddenly seemed to freeze. Could not connect to any website using Chrome or IE9. Internet connection troubleshooter showed no problems

    - Chrome and IE 9 just displayed a blank page with no notice that "IE has stopped working" just a blank page with the little circle showing the page was trying to load.

-Kaspersky Internet Security would not launch and also froze.

-I use a VPN but same problem existed using both VPN and normal connection. I was using VPN when system initially froze.

    - I did a restart, uninstalled Chrome, ran a scan with Kaspersky and Malawarebytes with neg result. After restart, computer "seems" to be normal.

Should I be concerned a virus/malaware has invaded my system ? What may have caused this unusual freeze without any system notification ? Should I take any further action ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

From which site did you attempt to download the Chrome installation?

If in doubt, download, install, update and run a FULL scan using Malwarebytes.

    Regards,

I downloaded Chrome from File Hippo which was the latest developmental Beta. I did perform a full scan with MalawareBytes last night after restarting the computer which was negative.

Any idea of the problem. Thanks !

    Try running hijackthis, here

    HijackThis - Trend Micro USA

when you run it, select "scan and save log file", and then cut-n-paste its log file into the box here:

    http://www.hijackthis.de/

    and click analyze

Hijack listed all programs/files as safe with Kaspersky and VPN file being neutral. Winsys.32.taskhost.exe was listed as unknown process but rated safe ?

My main concern is that when I had the freeze, Kaspersky would not function !

As stated, subsequent scans with Kaspersky and malawarebytes were negative.

Any other ideas/actions to take appreciated.

I would not worry too much about it. Judging by your actions, the system works now. Seems to have been Chrome - most likely the addins. If you want to make a test, reinstall Chrome, but without the addins.
