    BSOD Help

    Dear Community,

I recently began experiencing BSOD within 10-15 minutes of having Windows loaded up. PC Specs are below:
    • HP IQ775
    • Originally came with 2GB (Pc25300 memory), and I just upgraded to 4GB (Pc25300)
    • Originally came with OEM Vista 32-bit, and I just upgraded to Full retail Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
    • Originally had BIOS version 5.3 and I just upgraded to version 5.5 (the most recent BIOS for the board)
    • The computer was purchased in 2007
I also attached the error reporting based on the forum instructions. I hope I did this right, as this is my first time using these forums. I've reformatted my computer and reinstalled the OS almost ten times and have no more hair to pull out. Thanks everyone for helping me shed some light on what's going on under the hood.

First install Malwarebytes and run a malware scan on your computer. Malwarebytes: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download
Also according to your uninstall log this seems to be a pretty new install and I can't see if you have any antivirus suites installed. If you do what is it? Also I would recommend installing sp1 if you can it requires validation but it updates a lot of old system drivers that are outdated on your system. Please also fill in the rest of your system specs by using the tool attached to this post in your profile it will help us get the correct drivers that aren't updated by sp1: SP1 windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe 903.0 MB

    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
    If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
            use .trap on that value
    Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
    Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
    Arg2: 0000000080050031
    Arg3: 00000000000006f8
    Arg4: fffff80002875594

Thanks Seth - I don't have any malware nor antivirus (it is a clean install). I downloaded the recommended Malware program anyway and everything is ok (no malware).

I have been trying to install service pack, but my computer keeps crashing. Thanks for the quick response. I have been restarting my computer and it has been slowly by slowly installing each piece of the update. I will get it done and provide you the needed info soon. Thanks!

I would like to test the memory if you just installed some that may be where your problem is occurring, if your not able to get the updates installed and get to the desktop I would pull the new memory for now and put back the old just to see if that makes a change for you and that will hopefully let you get the installed updates to complete installation. Then you can run this tut after you make a memtest86 disk or usb on your new memory: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

    Hi Seth,

Thanks for your response. Since I last posted I've run the memtest on my RAM and it checked out perfectly. In addition, I went to the local PC store and purchase 2 other models and all were tested using Memtest and all checked out ok and also caused the same freezing. The freezing was so bad that it was getting to the point where I would only be able to update one update at a time (meaning if there were 5 updates available, I would have to uncheck 4 of them) because the PC would only give me a few minutes before freezing.

So instead of using Windows Update to upgrade to SP1, I just decided to install Windows 7 with SP1 already loaded in. So now I am running SP1 and I have again tried updating (there are still more updates), but have not been able to complete all pending updates because of freezes (I think I have seen the BSOD nearly 25-30 times over the course of the past few days).

I have attached the most recent dump file logs, and have also ran the tool to provide more system specs:

    Hi,

    *UPDATE*

Based on the recommendation of another person, I had deleted the following three drivers:

    athrxusb.sys
    nvlddmkm.sys
    CFACPI.sys

After deleting these, I still continued to notice freezes. Also, half the time the computer freezes while the other half the time the PC just turns of by itself and reboots.

I ran the perfmon and the dump file tool again and have uploaded the most recent error reports.

I need all the help I can get as this computer is becoming a real nightmare! Thanks!

Forgot to include an update above - computer shuts off randomly without warning as well. 50% BSOD and 50% shutting down and restarting without BSOD

The dumps are not pointing to anything specific so I would like to do the following:

I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

    Then, here's the procedure:
    - Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
    - Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
    - Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.
Usually you wont even get to the desktop while doing this. Make sure the computer crashes a couple of times then reboot into safe mode and turn the verifier off and then upload the new dumps. This method ensures that we pinpoint the driver that is corrupting the system hopefully and we can start from there.

These three drivers are very important drivers:
athrxusb.sys Atheros Wireless LAN driver: SMC Networks - SUPPORT EN_USA
nvlddmkm.sys Nvidia video driver: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
CFACPI.sys Advanced Configuration and Power Interface

If you deleted these then I can see why the bsod's are becoming more frequent they need to be installed to the latest versions please do that ACPI should be available through windows update.

    Hi,

Ok - I went ahead and reinstalled the drivers and had a few crashes. I also turned off the verifier (I don't believe it was on because when i tried to delete the settings and save it it had a pop-up that said no changes made - which I assume means it was already off).

I've attached the new error reports. Thanks for your help!

I'm also whether/how I could expedite the process of getting a resolution and pinpointing what is really causing this error. Is there a way to talk by Skype? - I know that you are doing this for me, and that the content generated benefits the forum, and I am not paying a dime, but at the same time I would hope I could find a way to expedite the process to find the solution as this PC (my main work PC), has been sitting idle for the past few weeks. Should I also repost to see if others may have an opinion on what could be wrong?

Looking forward to hearing from you again. Thanks!
