win 7 dvd will not boot into repair mode

please help me. i am going to do my best in explaining what has happened.

since god knows when i, have been receiving errors in installing sp1. finally, after doing much research into it, i found out that the program i used, drivecleaner.net, removed some critical files that are necessary for the update. more specifically, ati driver files. so i decided to change some permissions and add the files back in. needless to say, it still didn't work. as a last resort i decided to try a repair install, as that would replace those critical files. i used my original win7 home premium 64bit dvd. so far so good. after walking through the first steps of removing the programs that wouldn't work, itunes, winmo 6.1, and ati ccc, the computer needed a restart for me to continue with the repair install.

no good. now i cannot boot into widows in safe mode. i cannot boot off my win 7 dvd. most of the time i get a boot manager screen saying that windows failed to start, blah blah blah.....insert windows installation disc and restart, choose language, click repair. nope. i come back to this. it also gives me the following:

    file: \windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    status: 0xc0000098
info: windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt

2 things - the status error has changed a few times, and how
can the kernel be missing or corrupt on the disc? this is an original oem disc. i really do not want to do a complete install of windows again (i had to do it about a year ago for some mistake that i made)

is it possible to repair? i also have gotten some real pretty bsod's too. idk what to do. i even tried swapping out my video card, to see if maybe using a nvidia based card would at least get me into the dvd menu. nothing.................

i am soooooo frustrated. please help me.

    thanks

just tried booting from dvd again and got this msg:

    file: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
    status: 0xc0000001
info: the selected entry could not be loaded because application is missing or corrupt

my last effort for tonight gave me a nice bsod:

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    *** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000000080204C2, 0x000000000000000F, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF8000D0C903A)

You should be able to boot from the win7 dvd irrespective of the mess in your install. Insert the disk into the tray/slot, reboot, press F12 repeatedly till you see a boot menu. Choose the dvd drive in that menu by moving the arrow keys up or down, then hit Enter.

Is this an OEM computer (came with windows preinstalled) or you bought win7 on your own? If the latter, if you plan to try recovery options (startup repair or system restore or restore from a previously created image or fiddling at the command line), you can use a system repair disk. Normally this disk can be made on any computer with win7 installed, but don't know whether its possible now. You can try to download one, google.

if you want to repair install or reinstall, you'll need a win7 install disk, you can use any. No, you shouldn't have to buy a fresh copy of windows. Just install the same edition you have the license for and activate with the key that came with it. If you bought a post sp1 disk, try to get hold of a similar one.

i built the computer and installed windows myself. never had any issues until recently with the sp1 update.

just tried another copy of win7 - dvd boots to windows boot manager, again. this time with the file pointing to winload.exe. status: 0xc0000098

i am trying a windiws repair disc now. i will post results when that runs
