    Corrupt ci.dll rootkit virus help

    Hi guys,

I am new here and I have to admit that I am not very good with computers. I know my way around the software and terminology, but once the console opens up I am clueless.

I have been battling a rootkit virus for a few days now and I think I am very close to the solution. My computer (Windows 7 home something x64 Sony VAIO laptop) randomly restarted itself while I was on the internet and it went to startup repair. I checked the log and it said that CI.dll was corrupt. I thought, no problem, I'll replace it- That didn't work. None of the 100 things I tried worked until I came across a thread where people were swearing by Kapersky's TDSS Killer. They were taking out their hard drives and plugging them into uninfected computers that had TDSS Killer on them and then applying the program to the infected hard drives, which seemed to cure the problem for pretty much everyone.

I have gotten that far. I have a computer running Vista that I loaded TDSS Killer onto. I have taken the hard drive out of my laptop and plugged it into the non-infected pc with a SATA usb dock thing. The pc recognizes the drive. The problem is, I can;t configure TDSS Killer to scan the infected drive! I have tried for hours to figure this out with no luck. All it does is scan the pc's C drive.

If I just missed one stupid little step or if I am completely going about this the wrong way, please let me know. I really appreciate all of your help.

It was not working for me on my pc earlier. I just tried it on a friend's computer and I have it downloaded. I will try it as soon as I get home. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Is this definitely going to fix it or does it just have a chance of fixing it?

I tried making the CD on a PC running Windows XP and it froze and started making beeping noises. Does this need to be done on another Windows 7 machine?
