BSOD in Win7 and WinXP in dual boot machine after RAM and HDDupgrade

    Hello!

I have a dell inspiron 1720 whose RAM and and disk space were upgraded recently. The HDD was added as secondary. In one HDD I run win 7 and the other winXP. When I did the WINXP install, I realized I was getting some blue screens when using windows, especially after the system's been in standby mode and then used, so I thought this had to do with the new RAM modules. So I ran memtest but it didn't find anything. I ran the Dell general system test and I found nothing, and today I ran the windows 7 memory diagnostic tool and it says there are no problems with my computer's RAM MEM.

I don't know what this computer has got itself into now. The BOSD began since the hardware upgrade. I'd appreciate any ideas, and I am attaching the requested info you guys explained in one post. I attached all the memdump files and the system reports.

Thanks! Looking forward to your reply

    Specs:
    Intel Centrino Duo 2.0
    4gb (2 modules) kingston DDR2 667 mhz
    250GB Fujitsu drive @ 5400 RPM
    160GB Hitachi drive @ 7200 RPM
    Creative HiFi external soundcard
    Geforce 8600 GT (internal)
    Windows 7 ultimate
The whole machine is 4 years old now

    Simple!!

Your 5 year old Norton. I would remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials

Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

Literally half of the OS needs updating.

    How To Find Drivers:
    - search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
    - - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference
    - - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

    HI,

    Thanks for the info.

I am going to check into that, but the funny thing, however, is that the dual boot in WINXP doesn't have norton installed...
What do you think? I am highly suspecting the new RAM modules

Sorry, one more thing. The BOSD that I got today was the one from today's memdump file. i think it happened like at 6:00 p.m...

How can I read those memdump files, anyway? does anybody know?

Reading DMP's with any accuracy requires training and tools.
