uncontrollable sound when using 2-usb pnp headset

    Hi all,

I have a new custom computer since one year (description bellow) for which I have a 2-usb pnp sound device (headset: steelseries 3H). Since the beginning the sound in the headset is really absolutly high. I need to put the overall sound of my computer (via volume mixer) to about 2 to ear at normal volume (while for the rest of my device, sound is perfectly normal at 100). This is anoying, but I was living ok with it. But since two days, I cannot control the main volume of the system (via volume mixer) anymore when I plug the headset. When I take down the volume it automaticaly get back to 100 and its destroying my ears as the volume is freakin absolutly to loud. When I unplugged the headset and plug it back, sometimes it allows me to take the volume down, but with no advertisment it get back to 100 destroying my ears. I have update my sound driver but didn't change anything. I have uninstall battlefield 3 beta about the same time the problem started although it might not be link.

os: windows 7 home premium 64 bit service pack 1
    intel core i7 cpu 950 3.06ghz
motherboard asus rampage III gene intel x58 / ich10r
    video asus radeon eah5850

    help would be much appreciated
    cheers

I do not think this thread needs to be in this section. You should post in the audio section, as this problem is not leading to system instability or bsod, right?
