I bought a new HP computer in February of this year and from day one had startup problems.
It has been back for repairs three times, but after being very persistent I've finished up with a replacement computer, which was all I asked for in the first place.
I did manage to contact HP's UK Customer Care Manager (a slight oxymoron there) which did move things along to a satisfactory conclusion.
Having said that, it can be quicker to repair it yourself, but as I had another computer I could use I made sure I used HP's warranty terms to my satisfaction.
