Acer X1301 crashes when running videos

    Win HP 7 64-bit OEM.

I don't know if it is OS related or not.

When watching videos what ever the source it will make a buzzing sound and then crash for good. It is a daily thing, randomly. Always when a video is running. I added a ATI 5450 video card and it does the same.

I updated the BIOS and all drivers to the latest versions. Windows Update works well.

    Any idea?

Another point may be noted ... what codecs you are using ? Try Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs and see if it is the same crashing or not.

I just tried that, although if I got him right the developer noted that the 64-bit version isn't likely to any help. I also updated the audio driver with a differet version on Acer site.

It doesn't overheat... I have the Moo0 monitor.

As your system is 32 bit (specs says so), you dont need 64 bit codecs . Even it is not compulsory for a 64 bit system, too.

After the codec installation, is it crashing till now ?

Yeah it does. After 6.5 hours of operating time it did it again. I guess that running heavy videos kills it.

I give up. Will be available for dirty cheap in classifieds.

No more Acer for me, thanks.

It isn't sold yet (although on Craigslist) but here is a funny thing. I removed the cover, played with the cables and left the cover aside. It has been running on TV tuner (WMC) with no crash for 2 days!

I wonder if it was not the 220W power supply that overheats and trips.

    Fragile beasts.
