BSOD playing LoL/BF3 and Browsing Web

Hey, I have been getting BSODs for the past week whilst playing games/browsing web and admittedly haven't got round to fixing it. I put this rig together about a month ago, only recently been getting this issue.

My PC also freezes if left on idle for a long period of time... Doesn't matter whether I turn the monitor off/on before leaving it. I changed the Power Plan options to prevent deactivation of Hard Drives and Sleep Mode etc.

So, back to the BSODs, they occur every 2-3 hours, my i7 2600k @4.5ghz temps aren't abnormal: 29C Idle and 59C at Full Load. My SLI 580s only peak at 72C in the 1080p Furmark Preset Burn Test.

Need some help hehe

- Reinstalled Windows 3 times due to the first Motherboard I received was DOA (Faulty LAN Port)

No DMP files included in upload please try this method


We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.


To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Struggling to find the Minidump folder. I did everything you said to enable minidumps but can't find it within my Windows folder. Do I have to wait till after another BSOD for the file to show up? :S

::EDIT:: Ah ok misread boot into safe mode + networking, will try that now

Ok couldn't find it even in Safe Mode + Networking, will have to wait till I get another BSOD...

Funnily enough when I disconnect my Ipod, as I usually have it plugged in, haven't had a crash in a while.

Ok so I just had another BSOD, tried to search for the minidump folder but couldn't find it even when in Safe Mode Networking.

I definitely enabled minidump and the directory is correct. >.<

I wrote down the codes displayed on the blue screen, not sure if that helps:

Not really. Here is what F4 means

Bug Check 0xF4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION


The CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION bug check has a value of 0x000000F4. This indicates that a process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

Just the title of the error doesnt really do us any good. The DMP tells us what was happening just before the computer crashed, and many other things.

Did you configure the control panel to enable DMPs as indicated in the instructions?

Yes. I have checked so many times now that it is setup correctly. However as I've said, I can't find the Minidump folder in Windows after a BSOD.

Yes. I have checked so many times now that it is setup correctly. However as I've said, I can't find the Minidump folder in Windows after a BSOD.

And you have searched for *.dmp? Have you looked in C:\windows? IF there the file sh0ould be named memory.dmp. That file gets ocerwritten every crash so there will only be one, where as in minidump there shoulod be one from each crash

You can also check in the event viewer to see if there is anything logged there about the crashes.


There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Event viewer (local) and look for the critical errors listed in the last day, week, etc. Then go to the windows log>application tab. Finally the windows Logs>system tabs.

You want to look for all errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.
