System Freezes/lockups/bsod

Hey, I just got a new computer about a week ago and Ive notice that its been having this weird problem. Its happened about once or twice a day, the last couple of days.

I will be surfing the web or listening to music on itunes and the system will freeze completly to the point where I have to hold the power button down to turn off the machine. On startup I get the screen where it says "windows did not shut down properly.." When I log back in and open the event viewer it shows the same error everytime. "Kernel-Power. Event ID 41. Task Category (63).

I changed my power plan from balanced to high performance thinking it was a power issue.

I also read through this thread: [SOLVED] Kernel-Power 41 (63) error - Tech Support Forum and I noticed that I also have 2 audio drivers and I disabled one of them. But I still encountered the same problem again later.

If anyone could be of some help that would be great. My computer is a HPE-410f. Here are the exact specs of the machine :HP Pavilion Elite HPE-410f Desktop PC Product Specifications - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
Im not overclocking anything, and everything on my machine is stock. If you need anymore information feel free to let me know, because I am new to this site.

Well Im pretty sure Im getting the Kernel-Power error is because Im having to hold down the power button to shut down the computer and it doesnt shut down completly.

But this still doesnt change the fact that my system keeps freezing to the point where I have to press the power button to shut it off. What can I check to see what would be causing this freezing?

Hello Kyle & welcome...

* Fill in your computer specs, so that we will have some information in order to help you.

* Your problem may be caused by many things > RAM problems >graphics drivers > overclocking > heat issues > using more than one AntiVirus at the same time > etc etc.

* Make sure PSU is working properly

* If overclocking, restore to original

*Any BSOD DMP files produced?

If so we need them to enable us to assist you with your computer's symptoms.

* Have you any System Restore points created PRIOR to this happening?

Some troubleshooting steps you might care to consider.

*Type event viewer, in search (by start button) and look for errors that may show the cause of the problem.

Look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).
Note critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.
Google for more information.

* Try a clean boot, or boot into safe mode.

Does the behavior persist?

Here are the exact specs for my computer: HP Pavilion Elite HPE-410f Desktop PC Product Specifications - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

It just froze again, except this time instead of just freezing completely and me having to hold the power button down. It froze, I got the blue screen, and then the system restarted.

You say your computer is almost brand new...and I would imagine under warranty.

A new computer should not be presenting with the problems you have listed - & we volunteers should not be putting at risk the rights,YOU, the consumer has under that warranty...
Be aware that attempting any subsequent harware troubleshooting steps may, in some cases, void your warranty.

I strongly suggest that you should seek further advice asap.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

*Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl Press Enter.
*Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery - Settings... button.
*Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
*Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kb) in the drop down box (the 256kb varies).
*Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
Reboot if changes have been made.

If there are no dmp files
Go to C:\Window\minidumps and look for files that have .dmp extension > zip them up and upload them to the forum.

It froze. I tried restarting it and It wont boot. My screen stays black and my keyboard never turns on. I can hear the fans and everything running, but it doesnt start up.

The most recent dmp file upload still points to a hardware device (unknown as of yet) in distress.

If this computer is still under warranty your best bet is to return it as the troubleshooting may void the warranty. {as stated in my post 5 above}
